This home is just lovely--the fireplace is probably my favourite feature. I don't love the coffee table, but its unique and allows the owner's individuality to come through. The hanging cabinets work very well. I like the tulip table and minimally voluptuous chairs, also echoed in the bar stools, that soften out a lot of the strong lines and angles of the home. Yes, Sheba is very special so I really appreciate all the compliments--greyhounds, btw, make great apt. dogs preferring to lounge all day and provide elegant 'living' decor! For plants, Garden District on 14th, Johnson's on Wisconsin, best orchids at Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods. As for the Danish Modern, I love Finn Juhl chairs and so am trying to 'collect' his pieces though I don't have room for much more(probably just as well soI don't break the bank). Statues/scupltures..I've been lucky..all the S.E. Asian sculptures have been gifts. The smaller modern piece on the 50s Drexel cabinet was purchased at the D.C arts/craft show a while back. The hanging bust in the hally way by Annu Ratta now in India-you can see one of her ceramic sculptures affixed over the window of Cafe Nema on U Street. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the space above the bed calls out for something--I have art but as yet unframed! The table on the rug is my dining table that actually extends to accomodate more. I still haven't found the right chairs to go with it(open to ideas) so I pull in the outdoor teak chairs when I want to use it! Your guidelines are basically sound good. I would suggest using a higher Phosphorus fertilizer as well to encourage blooming, something with a higher middle no. eg. 10-20-10. Phals and paphs should be kept moist so the "water x times a week" will depend entirely on the weather. Others, like cattleyas and other orchids that look like they have 'bulbs', should be allowed to dry out slightly between watering. Cattleyas and dendrobiums incidentally, need much brighter light, even some direct sun, to do well. After flowering, its best to cut the entire stem off at the base. And when you repot, be sure to use an 'orchid mix not regular houseplant soil. Nice photo btw ! Apartment Therapy San Francisco | How To... Care for an Orchid |

Nice job Rachael. I like what Helen's attempted in a small spaceâa good dose of creativity and personal taste, without having one's home look like a DWR showroom. As for those concerned about grammar mistakes, you may be technically correct, but none of the very minor mistakes prevented me from understanding what Rachael was trying to "communicate" and she got her point across. (How on earth do you sticklers for grammar negotiate the web with all the bad writing out there?) I say take a deep breath and meditate on the green elephant.
