Amanda's blog is the kind of blog that deliberately chooses to spotlight the positive, beautiful and inspiring. However, as a long time reader of her blog, I would say that it is quite clear that, as with any family, sometimes life is less than smooth. It's just that her blog focus is elsewhere.

I for one am very grateful to her for encouraging all her readers to lock the bathroom door and dig into a tub of ice cream when the going gets tough.

It's refreshing to see toys that haven't been styled to within an inch of their life, but I agree with sparklish.

My children would use this to stand in the bath and reach things on the windowsill, or maybe jump off. It wouldn't work in our house, but each to their own.

Sarahrae, it will not be fine for several months. It will be fine for a few days/weeks, maybe. I don't think I would feel happy leaving a child unsupervised in that space for many years.

On a more positive note, they haven't actually decorated the space, they have just moved furniture, so they should be able to move it all out pretty easily.

There are reasons why nurseries usually have 4 walls!

I am pretty sure the leaf is from Ikea - pity they don't sell the rest of it!

"Kati shows her knack for placing colorful toys and tiny artworks on white, minimal shelves".

So once one has placed the colourful toys and tiny artworks on the white minimal shelves, is it OK to glue, or perhaps nail them down, or would this be seen as child abuse?

I have never understood why a diaper bag is better than a back pack/courier bag/any other bag.

I think that, especially with little children, rotation is the key to toy and book management. Therefore, I agree with the other comments that a basket with a few books is best. At this age I found that shelves full of accessible books were brilliant - as long as everybody enjoyed pulling them off the shelf again, and again and again rather than actually looking at them.

We have baby twins living next door. On the rare occasions that their crying wakes me I am just grateful that I can go back to sleep - your baby's crying sounds far worse to you than it does to others.

Even without all the safety concerns, I am not sure how this idea is helpful. When my children are messy on a table they are messy on the floor too, and if you are going to clear paint/flour from the floor, you might as well clean the work surface too.

Absolutely agree with Julie K - screwing a plate to a table wouldn't stop the contents going all over the floor, the table, the chair etc. etc. etc. The only difference would be that now you would have to clean the clamp too.

Agree with sar3j

How useful could this be? My children watch television, but surely a child watching these channels wouldn't be on their own for so long that they would need their own remote.

I agree with Zanna's comment - however I think we all find our houses evolve as our children grow - and we think of more cool ideas! I can see a few conflicts if there are any obsessive CD alphabetizers in the house though!

I just can't help thinking that the baby would have a really good feed, would start crying and the machine would respond by flashing "hungry, hungry!".

You don't NEEEED anything except basic going home clothes, a car seat and somewhere for the baby to sleep. My advice would be to get things gradually. The stroller/sling you choose will depend on your lifestyle and size of baby. Its difficult to predict this pre-baby. For instance, I imagine those rocker/ottoman things are more useful if your baby spends a lot of time in his/her own room rather than being carried by you or in your bed. However, a little like childbirth, whatever your plans, you won't really know what parenting style suits you before you have the baby (and even then it can be a little hard!)

I love the way this looks and I love the muffin tins. It looks such a nice space to spend time in. Love the labelling too. What's not to like? I think the best thing is that with a little guidance a young child could start to sort/tidy their own things into the boxes. Very montessori!
