Hi guys, this is Linn from The Home Project. I'm just delighted by these sweet comments! Thanks! I'm so happy myself with the way our little table and chair came out, and we're getting a lot of use out of it already. And rmbnn: there was definitely not enough wood for two chairs and a table. After we were done with the table and chair I think there were two or three broken wood pieces left, so we definitely used it all up!

Hi guys, This is Linn from The Home Project. Thanks for all your kind words about my kitchen! I love how the remodel came out myself!

Regarding the fridge: it really should swing the other way, one of those things we haven't gotten around to yet (really should get on that since it's not something big to do!) Also, the reason why we chose this kind of fridge is to get more space - we also have a full sized freezer in the adjacent utility room. We love to cook and bake and had been wanting a full sized fridge AND a full sized freezer for a long time. With a French door fridge you don't get nearly as much space as we have now.

I kind of agree the mint colored walls were charming and I were tempted to keep them, but then I also couldn't resist the clean look the subway tile provides...

Hi Artjunk, I know what you mean with the drawers raining sawdust down on everything in the cabinet beneath. We did a pretty good job sanding the drawers and even giving the interior structure a light sanding before priming and painting (this is after first just painting and realizing, oops the paint starts peeling if you don't do a really good prep job!) So no, we haven't had an issue with this, and I think it's due to the fact that we did a good job sanding before painting.

If your drawers stick, perhaps you should take them out and give them a light sanding on the bottom as well as on the rails, then wash everything before putting it back together.

ek76, Both the all-fridge unit as well as the all-freezer unit comes from Sears. They were both very affordable if you compare them to many other appliances on the market (I think each one was around $500.) Love, love them both! So much space for food and not any space taken up by an ice machine.

Loora, I agree that sometimes an all white kitchen can be boring, however we have quite a bit of color in the rest of the house, so the kitchen is really the only room that's white, a nice break in other words.

Tulsa_Retro, we worked with a local sheet metal place that constructed the stainless steel, however we provided them with a model of our counter in plywood. All in all it worked out good and was VERY affordable. more info here: Installing Stainless Steel Counters

Thanks again for all these awesome comments!

Hi guys, this is Linn from The Home Project I'm so happy you like me new kitchen! Actually, we don't have a chest freezer but a full size freezer (which looks about the same as the fridge) in the utility room which is literally a few feet away. We loved this option as this enabled us to fit full sized sheet pans in the freezer when baking, and store lots of frozen fruits and breads as I tend to bake a lot.

I agree we do have to change the position of the door of the fridge though! Just one of those things we haven't gotten around to yet!

Yes, we have stainless steel counters which we put in ourselves, and tile all the way up to the ceiling. I also love subway tile, so cheap and timeless, not to mention practical!

Thanks so much for all your kind words! I couldn't be happier with the way the kitchen turned out myself!

I agree this is a LOT of work! Before moving into our house, me and my husband refinished our oak floors and rented one of the drum sanders pictured above (which we ended up hating with a passion!) We chose a water based polyurethane which was really easy to work with and the floors turned out great! Checkerboard floors are the best! We installed a black and a white granite and marble stone tile floor in our kitchen and absolutely love it! DIY installing marble and granite checkerboard floor

We were first looking into vinyl, however after a while determined we prefer real, old fashioned materials. I'm sure vinyl works in some areas, however I'm very happy with the way our stone floor came out.

I just remodeled my 1946 kitchen Before & After with budget and we decided to go for a black and white checkerboard floor using marble and granite tile. DIY checkerboard stone floor
If doing it yourself, it really doesn't have to cost much, our whole floor cost about $1600, but if we had went with other tile it could have been done even cheaper. And it looks great!
