I, like you it seems, have a large kitchen with plenty of elbow room and NO counter space. When I moved into my apartment, I let my previous roommates keep my microwave. I figured I would get a new one but over the last 6 months I have learned to live without it. It really doesn't take much time to warm up leftovers on the stove. I have learned that a slice of pizza re-heated for a few minutes in the broiler tastes infinitely better than a nuked one. Curries and sauces and even rice seem to warm up fairly quickly in a skillet. My favorite thing about living microwave-less is that I feel tied to my food. I can see and smell every step. And I eat much better knowing I can't take the easy way out on lazy nights. So I say do without it. Simplicity always feels better.

I am a pepper fiend! However, recently I have discovered an even greater love for Chili powder. It adds that extra oomph to sooo many dishes but with a homier more interesting texture. (I especially love it in hot chocolate!) :)

My shower curtain hangs to about the middle of my tub base. I did this partially for the cleanliness reasons listed above but also because placing the rod higher really raised the ceiling an elongated the space in my not-so-big bathroom. Also, the simple but interesting vine pattern on my chosen curtain serves the same purpose as an accent wall if, like me, you are renting and not allowed to paint :)

Look at guitar wall hangers. They come padded to help with the heat and are usually nice looking. Depending on your personal aesthetic, you can even find some funky alternatives or a nice cheap simple one like this: http://www.amazon.com/String-Swing-Hardwood-Studio-Guitar/dp/B0002GLCRC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324572892&sr=8-1

I think you have a good idea with the green but why not try something a little more out of the box - like seafoam. Maybe work in a few accessories made of oxidized copper to help tie in the dark and light green shades. Your tile is very earthy looking so going with a natural color combination might work in your favor. To keep from getting lost in a sea of copper ore, incorporate some brick red - or better yet - try and find a patterned wallpaper that uses all of your colors. Like this one I saw and loved a while back:http://i-cdn.apartmenttherapy.com/uimages/la/020110_warymyers.jpg
