You can freeze the frosted cupcakes -- we recently did it for a large school event where there were going to be a million cupcakes and not enough time. They still tasted delicious -- perhaps more like 97% whereas fresh baked would have been 100%

If you are freezing with frosting, make sure to use a heavier buttercream or cream cheese frosting -- I've never frozen a light, whipped cream style frosting, and think that it would probably not do as well.

If you don't have a cupcake carrier, consider buying some of these -- they make your life easier and make sure the cupcakes don't get smooshed while they're freezing.

hunter606 -- perhaps you are thinking of a different pad and quill? These cases are certainly not "plastic and cardboard with contact paper." On the contrary, the frames are birch, and the covers are bonded leather.

My mom takes her ipad around everywhere in a pad and quill case and has had it dropped, stepped on, thrown around the car, and both the ipad and case still look like new.
