It always amazes me how people are SO judgmental when it comes to what they consider art. It sounds like some of you (ok, one in particular) think Thomas Kinkaid is just the bee's knee's, or you bought that Pollock painting/print because you knew he was famous. If you don't 'get it' or don't like it, no worries...it's not in your house.

I like the juxtaposition of the "streetart" inspired piece above the bed with the graphic arabesque bed linens in the bed area, giving the whole mid century vibe a breather. Btw...I love that you gave the credenza and wardrobe a wackjob, they would have been way too dark for the space.

I totally didn't even think about the lack of windows until I read the comments, good job, you were so successful in making the space bright!

OH MAN, my friends actually had sex on their toilet and broke it and I thought, for sure, they are the only people in the world to have done so...:( I have been proved wrong.

On a more serious note,
I don't have a disposal or a dishwasher. Regardless of how many times I have wiped down any small food scraps-before I wash a plate so the food won't go down the drain-into the trash, or how much water and soap I use to wash the dishes, my sink smells like rotten food! Previously I didn't take as much care with wiping the dishes down to prevent a small amount of food going down the drain. However, after I started to notice the smell, I immediately went ape shit with scraping every last bit of food off my plates into the trash and pouring baking soda and vinegar down the drain- I heard that was an eco-friendly way to clean pipes. Unfortunately this hasn't done much, and even my cleaned plates/cups smell like this "baby vomit," I don't know what the heck to do! It doesn't help that my water smells kind of funky, either haha.
Anybody have the same problem?

I have the waterpic ecoflow shower head, similar to the one on the right; and it feels like a regular shower head to me. Unfortunately, I bought it as soon as I moved in, so I couldn't really tell you if it has made an impact on my water bill; however, because my house has old plumbing, it's got the hot water dial, the on off dial and cold water dial so I just twist it off when I'm not rinsing.

I almost choked on my lomein when I read about Matt's supersoaker situation. HILARIOUS

Now, I don't advocate the use of drugs, especially those acquired by less than legal means, but when I lived in a student apartment complex, a few xanax and some tea usually did the trick.
And then I moved.

Hahah, it's funny because as a college student, I have always tried to get away with how long I could go without washing my jeans/shirts/dresses without thinking about how that positively effects the environment.

As for underwear, socks, workout clothes...after one use those puppies go in the laundry basket and then once I run out of clean ones, a nice big load goes into the hot wash.

I own a drying rack- the fold up ones are pretty cheep like 10 bucks and under- and keep it inside with the windows open and a fan on, so during the rainy summer months of Florida, it doesn't really matter if its sunny or rainy.

I stalk sales! The constant creeping also has the added bonus of making sure you really like the product before you buy it.
Try Urban Outfitters, their sister company, UO has bedding that can give off the feeling you're looking for but for cheaper than anthropologie;however, 120 for a quilt is still pretty expensive...but that could go on sale for something less bank breaking.
Always, always search ebay, criagslist tjmaxx/marshalls/ross and the sale sections of stores you like!

THIS is a Florida 'burb house for sure; however, that is not to say all Florida houses have their plant to house ratio messed up, but chances are your 'burb house has teeny tiny shrubs and HUGE palms or dying Hibiscus :P

I like the Hellman loft a lot, partially because it's got an Obey Giant poser but mostly because they used a pink VERY similar to mine as an accent wall on the second level :D

I agree with AT, the Santa Fe loft has some amazing pieces, but spatially it seems awkward.

OHHHHH, that bookshelf divider thing, drrrroooooollll.
I love the mid century tapered legs, and I was wondering if you guys built this piece yourself and added the legs- if so, where did you get them.

Oh man, the black bird one reminds me of "The Birds," which I guess could be cool for a hardcore fan. Other than that, I think the Ankaa one is beautiful.

I agree with painting your wood furniture (maybe even a light gray) and using colorful accents, and I'd loose the plastic storage and the cottage looking dresser.

I would use low profile (like the malm 6 drawer dresser) furniture: the dresser on the wall across from the bed with a large rectangular mirror above it, on the wall with the window, I would put a little seating area with a pair of Danish looking chairs and a cute little table. Assuming your closet is on the opposite wall of the window, I would experiment with swapping the bed and the bookcase, paint the bookcase, and get a really gorgeous headboard and simple bed linens.

I work at IKEA, and from far away they look reasonable but up close they are pretty tacky looking, even for me :).

Though, if you plan on getting smashed, they probably look lovely!

Last year for an art class I saw her work on season two of ART 21 and was inspired to make my own silhouettes, albeit less controversial ones.

I saw somewhere recently a DIY way to make them but I don't remember where, so here is my quick wrap up of the process:

You will need a photo (original size or blown up), tracing paper (I'd spring for it, wax paper from the grocer can mess up the tips of your fine tip sharpie), an exacto and some blades, spray adhesive and archival paper (one of each color).

1. trace the picture on the tracing paper
2. cut out the trace with your exacto
3. place the traced image onto one of the colored pieces of paper and cut it out (you can outline it with pencil and erase it afterwords if you have patience)
4. Spray the back of the traced piece and mount it onto your other piece of paper.

wash your hands and frame!

No Annakarina I haven't seen those films, but I have seen Akira Kurosawa's Dreams...his color usage especially in "The Peach Orchard" was particularly awesome! http://video.google.com/videosearch?client=safari&rls=en&q=the%20peach%20orchard&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wv#

Elizabethy, I really love the idea of taping off a huge pink rectangle later. My main reason for picking such bright colors is because I have always lived in places with pale colors, and I'm kind of opposed to "accent walls" but I think your idea mixes accent walls and more classic colors in a great way.

Shari, believe it or not I bought a ton of quarts to put up swatches behind the sofa: corals, pinks and purples and that was the only one that I felt looked best.

Michaelc, your comments made me laugh really hard. Gimmie the pressure washer's number, I have some wasps nests in my porch I have to get rid of. I think you would be pleased to know that the few guys I am interested in (who have all helped me get this place together by hauling my junk) genuinely think it fits me to a "t." They are all art majors though, so I guess they're biased haha.

Oh and Clairepetrol, I LOVE that photo, the pink was sort of based on it actually! I am going for a Moroccan/Indian vibe for my porch- which looks into the family room- Im going to make a woodblock print of paisleys for some sheers I already own (I think westelm has some similar) and I bought these gorgeous star tea lights that look similar to the light fixture posted today!
