Wow, lots of great advice! My recommendation is similar to others here: give a LOT of thought to the functions you want to include. I ended up working with a landscape designer who started off with a 2-3 hour interview that covered many items mentioned above and others, too: pets? kids? anyone with disabilities or access issues to address? did I want to grow vegetables, fruit trees, herbs, flowers for cutting? was I committed to natives? what resources were available for maintenance - just me or hired help? did I need space for a barbeque? do I entertain large groups or small? did I want a place for quiet contemplation, reading or yoga? sports, games, a pool or spa? did I want to establish a wildlife habitat? what did I want to see/feel when looking out different windows: cool and calm or exciting drama? What colors/plants do I love (or not)?

I felt like I was being asked SO many questions but it's really worthwhile to consider all aspects.

Very pretty space. I like that it looks like it could still function as a dining room - assuming the chairs weren't Craiglisted! Aside from that one woven trunk, what I don't see (and am seeking myself), is great looking, dining room-appropriate storage for office gear, files, etc.

I'd love to ride the 3 miles to work instead of walking!

This would be so, so perfect in my house!
