I would turn the living room into the master bedroom or into two smaller bedrooms and use the kitchen/bathroom/bedroom for the living space. Be lucky your kitchen doesn't take up much space. (coming from a non-cook)

I'm trying . . . - I agree chicken juice, raw port juice - disinfect the sink after washing the dog - otherwise I use my miracle cloths.

What about the amount of suds, water and energy to clean the things? Does it all work out in the end?

I've scanned most of my family photos and use them in a Kodak picture frame for anyone who really really wants to see :). I have NO room in my 800 sq ft apt. plus I carry their memories in my heart so while I don't necessarily need to look at them, guest 'might' , hence the digital photo frame

something about the ink in the newspapers. I just washed my windows last weekend - very dirty storm windows I used my miracle cloth with dawn dish washing liquid and lots of hot water - then did the newspaper thing.

Turns out a dry miracle cloth worked just as well if not better than the newspaper. Didn't discover this until the front windows were done. the miracle cloth left no lint and did a better job overall.

when I say miracle cloth I'm just referring to the generic microfiber cloths sold everywhere.

Just bought the lowest end of the Miele. Own a dyson for the fla house and can say I prefer the Miele. Its a canister for all hardwood floors with the occasional rug. Seems sturdy and well made. Small and lightweight too. I think you can get a different model (I got the yellow one) or maybe the hepa filter - for different floors.

ah . . but is it a 'bowl' or is it a couch/chair? How big is it? Ditto the porn labels. Some of us aren't gen-xers or that other younger term - what is it? millenians or something?

I wonder if because I'm 'older' - maybe lots older than most of you. . . well ok I'm 57 and other half is 63 that I have lost interest in keeping the thousands of books we've collected. I found I never really went back to most of them. I'm keeping one bookshelf of various 'memento' books, the ancient books bought for a song at the old alma mater while working part time there, first and only edition of various friends works, and that's about it.
I'm trying to live in the here and now rather than imagining rereading or finding a passage, from a book on my bookshelf, I've come to realization that that just isn't gonna happen.
If I need to find a receipe - I google it. No need for the 50 cookbooks that's been dragging me down for the past 30 years, same with gardening, self help, etc etc.
I'm finding my ipod has replaced many of my cds as well as my dvr has replaced my dvds. Welcome to the 21st century I say.
I wonder honestly without malice if its my age?

Although my space will never look like this - I love it. i would like one tiny part of my house to look like this all the time. maybe my desk or part of the bedroom. and I totally get the no books around thing. Since we're downsizing, I cleaned out an entire wall of books. Many had moth larvae, many were books that friends lent - NONE were worth cluttering up the place with. If I feel like rereading a paperback, I'll just go pick up a used one. Whats with keeping all the books. We found college economics books, 1980 travel books. Feels so good to get rid of them and my local goodwill/bookstore was happy.

When I lived in South Florida in a huge house with lots of carpet (ugh, I know) - I had a rainbow. After 10 years I sold it on eBay for more than half of what I paid originally (900.00) Wow that thing was the bomb! uses water instead of bags. I see them on ebay getting bid up through the roof so people must still love them. Probably not the best choice for an apartment.

I now own a dyson and its 'ok'. I have a cleaning service once a week so I don't use it that often and everytime I do, I forget how the dang things comes apart and goes back together. Plus the long hose came off which wasn't too expensive to order.

My next will be a canister me thinks of looking into the Miele . . but wait - it has bags?

I love the idea of having pictures for reference. I have pictures on my computer of my apt (which I don't live in as yet) - when I'm feeling lonely - I'll look at them - or I rearrange things on the image, etc. but to have this on the wall? not so much. Just another thing that will blend into the background eventually.

We are planning a move from 3,000 sq ft to under 850. We have about a year so no hurry but I've already started - been taking family photographs out of their frames and realized that they are scattered all over. On top of the piano (upright), on hallway walls, really on just about ever surface imaginable. I just yesterday removed 2 small frames of my husband's nieces' DOGS! yes we had been living with 2 small ugly framed pictures of dogs (they were gifts). Get this - the dogs have since gone on to dog heaven, no less. Every school picture anybody ever sent, they sent in frames and we obligingly displayed.

I'm hardening my heart and every single ugly cheap wooden framed picture of relatives dogs :) But really, if we have the living breathing human to love, what good are the framed pics? I'll keep and display few precious ones. maybe one of each kid, one of the parents, one of the antique grandparents. Oh wait - even that's too many!

dilemma for sure.

picture perfect. Yet too perfect may I say? I love it and strive to live like that - alas it will never happen as I love to watch TV, browse the internet (here for instance), read in bed, I sew a little bit and have to little yappers (dogs). My place will never look like this.

But good for you. Gorgeous magazine perfect.
