My wedding is a year from now and we aren't doing a traditional cake-the plan since day 1 has been whoopie pies, alfajores, and ice cream! i can't wait :)

oh gosh. this could be a long list. first and foremost:

CHEESE! the really good stuff. i demolished a huge hunk of fromage d'affinois in no time flat the other day.

pasta, fresh bread & butter, anything caramel related, any iteration of creme brulee/panna cotta/etc. guacamole. and if there are killer french fries in front of me, i'm a goner.

one of my FAVORITE sites for delicious, super-interesting and flavorful vegetarian fare is www.101cookbooks.com. heidi has a wonderful collection of recipes. 2 of my faves: caramelized tofu w/ brussel sprouts, and lentil almond stir fry. check it out! a really great resource.

Oh goodness. My best friend's parents moved to Colorado earlier this year, and before they left her mother gifted me this old, HUGE (i am talking MASSIVE here people) orange Descoware dutch oven. Too big for everyday use but making homemade stock in it is a dream come true, and it is beautiful!

SMOKED MOZZ. yes yes yes. It reminds me, in an awesome way, of almost-burnt marshmallows. it is DIVINE. here in dc we can get blue ridge dairy smoked mozzarella at the local farmer's markets-i have to stop myself from buying it too often because it vanishes from the fridge in 2 days, max.

art-as I am recent vegetarian who sorely misses bacon, love the idea of using it in mac & cheese. am going to try soon, thanks for the idea!

I'd also like to give a shout out to the Cream-Braised Brussels from Orangette. Utterly decadent morsels of creamy nutty heaven on a plate. Yes, they are rich and holiday-worthy, but I think I am going to have to make them this weekend...

I try to like bourbon and whiskey, I really do. My boyfriend loves them, and I'd like to be able to enjoy a glass with him every once in a while. Alas, even the smell makes me gag.

This is so well-timed. My boyfriend and I are heading to Iceland in a couple of weeks for a 2 week trip where we will be camping most of the time. I'm impressed you packed a cooler and brought it with. Did you have a rental car while you were there? I guess I'm asking-was it a pain in the ass to lug it around?? :) Any must-bring recommendations and/or favorite campsites??

Glad you had a wonderful honeymoon!!!

Kathyh-

My 2 cents about interior design schools in DC...there are basically 3 options. The Corcoran, GW, and Marymount.

I am in the Master's Program at Marymount. I looked at all 3 schools and decided on Marymount because a) it's ACCREDITED by CIDA (which the Corcoran is not, which will make it all that much harder to be eligible to take the NCIDQ exam down the road), b) they offer night classes and flexible scheduling for the people who still have day jobs, aka ME (GW requires that you go to school full time), and c) more affordable than GW.

While Marymount is by no means perfect, overall it has been a very positive experience for me so far. Much of the faculty is excellent, and I see continuing efforts to improve the program. I don't know what your needs are, but check out all 3 schools! If you have more question feel free to post again on here and I can get back to you with my email address.

I have to second the comment for Heidi @ 101 Cookbooks caramelized tofu w/ brussels sprouts. It is one of my favorite dishes.....and I'm eating it for lunch right now!!!

My other fave, more indulgent sprout recipe, is Molly of Orangette's Cream Braised Brussels Sprouts. They are knee-buckingly good. Have made avowed haters come back for seconds with that dish. :)
