Totally agree about where to save and where to get creative. My suggestion about trash cans is to stash them under the sink. No matter how pretty your trash can is, nobody wants to look at nasty bathroom detritus. Where to Save and Where to Splurge: Bathroom Style on A Budget |

Good call on painting the newell post and railings. The gray/orange color scheme is great too. The whole entryway looks fab. Before & After: Linda Welcomes Style to the Entryway It All Started with Paint |

I would run some richly-colored curtains floor to ceiling across the windows (or maybe those are sliding doors?) then across the entire wall where the tv sits (like movie theater curtains). A substantial built-in unit for the tv, etc. would help all the equipment look like it had a home and wasn't just plopped down in the room. Balance TV and Window in Living Room? Good Questions |

I love this room so much. The only thing I would have done differently is to arrange the furniture so that the chairs are flanking the TV, making it more condusive to conversation rather than TV watching. Great job, though! I, too, love French & MCM styles. I would counteract the foofooness of this couch (don't take that as an insult because I love the couch) w/ something way more modern, like black or white Barcelona-style chairs. Great score! I agree w/ twoheadedboy. I don't wear the same clothes or have the same hairstyle I had in 1980 (or 1990 or 2000 for that matter). Part of the fun of style is its changeability. You find what works for you at the time and work it; then when it no longer works you move on. Apartment Therapy DC | Dated Decor: What Trends Will Stand the Test of Time? |

The couch is great. I would just go crisper, with crisp white or orange pillows instead of the mushy-looking ones and white or light-gray walls. I agree w/ all of the above about the art. There are a lot of floral, country-leaning objects in the room (rugs/art) & I would steer clear of that and go in a more up-to-date direction art & accessories-wise. My kitchen is 9x6 and I love it. It makes for an extremely efficient work triangle. I recently bought a full-size stove & fridge (21cu/ft maybe) and they improved the look of my kitchen over the tiny stove/fridge that were there when I bought the house. I also have high ceilings and the cabinets go all the way up so I have more storage than I need in there. Also, my dining room is about 14x14 so I can entertain.
