Everything everyone has said is true, true, true. It would help, though, if the before/after photos were shot from precisely the same perspective. The first one? OK, but the others? Maybe it's me and I have no imagination. It's a bugaboo of mine, as is absent descriptions in home-tour slide shows. I've had spells when I stopped looking at them altogether because a lack of descriptions makes me crazy. Otherwise I'm a darling girl...really. I am on the parent side of this dilemma, and it IS a frustrating one. I love my daughter, son-in-law and grandson, now grown to college age, but often I'd rather stay home alone or in the company of people who have come to be my close-at-hand "family." It's rarely calm and relaxing when I go, though there are fun times, like the new tradition of going to a Chinese restaurant on Christmas Day (a la "A Christmas Story") and having the big home-cooked meal either on Christmas Eve or Dec. 26. No longer having to fuss over Santa Claus helps, but the obligation of it makes me begin to fret as soon as Labor Day has passed. I think it's because 9 times out of 10, I'm the one who has to do a road trip, either to my daughter's (7 hours away) or her in-laws (5 hours away). It makes sense; I'm one person with no room here for a half-dozen people to stay. That said, it's still trying and not the joyful occasion it should be. The Family Holiday Tap Dance |

It's all relative. No matter where you live, if your rent is half your take-home pay, you're in a pickle. I mean surely everyone out there realizes that there are places in this country, even in the cities mentioned, where lots and lots of people barely make $50,000, let alone more than $100,000. Shelter is expensive, too expensive, but unless the law will allow us to "camp out" in public parks, we have to pay. Hooray for free enterprise. Amen, CCP MBD. Also, oils, vinegars and spices stored above or immediately beside the stove is a questionable idea. I've read lots of times, even on this blog, that proximity to heat changes the flavors of all those items. At the risk of repeating the above observation: Cute, but not a smart idea. 15 Smart & Creative Storage Solutions from Our Kitchen Tours |

Not sure I'd have put the stove cheek by jowl with the fridge. Had a setup like that in a rental, and you could actually feel the heat of the stove through the wall of the fridge. Maybe a 1000 eu fridge is better insulated than my rental fridge was. Cute, cute, cute kitchen, though. Love the fridge and the sink, especially the sink. I certainly am astute enough to recognize the intrinsic beauty of Maria's home. It "looks like" her. I also find it to be the antithesis of my own personal style. It truly is amazing to me, so much so that I've been back through the slide show a couple of times looking for something I might adapt to my own surroundings...no go. Enjoy your beautiful home, Maria. It somehow has further solidified my own opposite style. Maria's Glamorous Fashion-Inspired Flat House Tour |

I want one! More importantly, I know a boy of 4 named Charley who will drive his mother crazy begging to search for the treasure box when I make and give him one. Bet I CAN do it, too. This has been pretty entertaining, but silly. If my home contained every pet peeve listed here, the negative comments wouldn't make me change them, and if those design elements so aggravated the people I invite into my home that they refused invitations, then we'd have to meet in restaurants or at the beach or park. My house if for ME, and if I like chopped pillows, by God, I'll have chopped pillows. But thanks for the chuckles. What's Your Design Pet Peeve? |

I have a question, not a comment. I used to have lots of funny, quirky pictures of family and friends displayed where visitors could see them, and I was told by a close friend who said she was told by a decorator that family photos are for private rooms and you should display only art in public rooms. Can that possibly be correct? I know I love to see fun photos of other people's families when I visit their homes. I put the family photos away after I was told that, but I'm feeling rebellious and am about to move them back. What say ye?! I can think of nothing better to express who I am than to show the charming, attractive and loony people who are my family. Essentials Of Effortless Style From Our House Tours |

A woman after my own heart...I love salted peanuts (dry roast) in my brownies, and I never eat chocolate ice cream without a blob of crunchy peanut butter perched up on the side of the bowl (dab of peanut butter with every spoonful of ice cream). Whatever is wrong with us, I hope there is no cure, because I love that sweet and savory combo. Recipe: Savory Oatmeal Cookies |

I love the house tours but wish so much that the photos had captions. I know people ask about certain design elements, furniture, paint colors, etc., in comments, but when you come late to a tour, you know your question's never going to be answered. Captions would be nice, though I understand that you can't insist on them. Matt Makes His Tiny Rental into a Home House Tour |
