Yes, we still have assigned seats in my family, they just made room for my husband next to me. At home he and I unfortunately end up eating while watching TV (we do have spots on the couch) or sometimes even standing since we're normally doing ten million things after work or are too exhausted to sit at the table. I hope to put a stop to this with a family so meal time can be more like it was for me as a kid (i.e. around a table). When we entertain we tend to sit at opposite heads of the table, and I sit closest to the kitchen. Do You Have Set Seats at Home? |

Love the kitchen, especially that sink, and the bathroom vanity upstairs. What a great space and adorable pooch. Congratulations on rebuilding after such a big loss - you should be so proud. Michele and Ryan's New Beginning House Tour |

My husband and I adore our cats, but we both know that they would ultimately stay with me if that became necessary. I suppose he might come by and visit but there is no way we would pass them back and forth. They are too territorial, hate car rides, and frankly I think they're a bit more attached to me. Perhaps he's a better person in that I know he'd let them stay with me if I insisted, and he'd probably even be willing to share vet bills... We would never split them up. I think it's great that peple can be grown up and mature about this, and I have clients who make it work, but it's definitely tough. FYI, animals are treated as personal property in many states, so unless you can agree, a judge won't take the time to draft a "custody" agreement. Part-Time Pets: Would You Have Joint Custody? |

This is a super helpful post. We are finishing a total backyard reno and I felt this way through a lot of the 6+ month project. Demo is exhausting. The sledgehammer definitely looks more appealing than it actually is :) Faith & Mike's Master Bathroom: First, We Waited. And Waited Some More. Renovation Diary |

Agree with @Magoo1. I'm a dining room person, and do not want people eating in my kitchen. I suppose if I had space I might add a teeny table to eat breakfast at, but that's it. The Hottest |

People die in their homes all the time, and when my husband and I were house shopping we looked at several homes where the previous owners had died of natural causes. In CA I think death in the home only has to be disclosed if it happened within a certain number of years prior to the listing. I don't know if I could get past a brutal crime or murder, however. I think that would freak me out. Would You Live in a Home that was the Scene of a Crime? |

@swieland I was just having that thought the other day. I can locate the sheets we need but it seems so dumb to keep them in the linen closet when they could fit in our bedroom closet closer to the bed. Smart Organizing: Keep Things Where You'll Use Them |

I love this place! It's neat and tidy and beautifully decorated, but also looks lived in. I love it when people find attractive but practical solutions like you did in your entry way. And your dogs are adorable! What is that treatment on your bedroom wall? It looks like fabric but I couldn't tell. Theodore & Matthew's Gingham Cottage House Tour |

We have knob and tube wiring and four sconces in our living room. It's pretty dark as a result, but they're pretty - especially the ones that flank the fireplace. If re-wiring for scones that are already there is not expensive I'd probably do it unless you have lots of art, etc. to hang. Otherwise outlets for lamps are probably your cheapest option. I'm sure you've done this already but ask your electrician what they recommend since they do this everyday. I'd also try to figure out your funiture placement now since that dictates your lighting needs (e.g. do you read on your sofa, do you want an outlet next to a chair, etc).
