this post is SO fabulous, it should be the foundation for a whole series of "what was your childhood inspiration?" ... I realize that I strongly connect to the suave kitchen prep moves of chef Snoopy and Woodstock in "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" --I think I'm always striving to have that much of a routine whenever I'm in the kitchen.

and then Albert's lunch in "Bread and Jam for Frances" always makes me want to be quite fancy and completely prepared in any picnic situation:
"He took a bite of the sandwich, a bite of pickle,
a bite of hard-boiled egg, and a drink of milk.
Then he sprinkled more salt on the egg and went round again.
Albert made the sandwich, the pickle,
the egg, and the milk come out even.
He ate his bunch of grapes and his tangerine.
Then he cleared away the crumpled-up waxed paper,
the eggshell, and the tangerine peel.
He set the cup custard in the middle of the napkin on his desk.
He took up his spoon and at up all the custard.
Then Albert folded up his napkins and put them away.
He put away his cardboard saltshaker and his spoon.
He screwed the cup on top of his thermos bottle.
He shut his lunch box,
put it back inside his desk, and sighed.
'I like to have a good lunch,' said Albert."

you could paint it cream, and then stencil on a plant painting to be the third in the series on that wall, or if you could get a third painting, hang it on the cream-painted fireplace, in a line with the other two.

I live in the NE, but allergies and asthma keep us from using our wood-burning fireplace, so I put an electric insert in it, and use it as a space heater if it's cold, or just use the light option alone; in the summer I switch that out to a pile of birch logs wrapped in christmas lights. it's nice to have light in the fireplace, since it's such a black hole otherwise.

you could also either wrap the chimney in lights, tacking light strings across it, or run light strings up the corners.

love everything! esp how lovely and neat-as-a-pin the kitchen is--very inspiring. my daughter and I picked out the same Dunkie's donut ornament and it hangs in a place of honor in our kitchen. FYI, the very nicest Dunkin Donuts in the world is in Paxton, MA. Proof?, it's where the four local mailmen meet for lunch. Before or after your next trip to Brimfield, come visit Central Mass! We are also home to the incredibly awesome and stuffed-to-the-brim Austin Furniture second-hand-store in Worcester.

this is beautiful, and so smartly planned, it's like a ship's interior. but yet, comfy and gorgeous looking. I adore the highboy tucked into that closet wall--yes, it's a tight fit, but it's got just as much personality as the wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast!
