Lately it seems like there have been a lot of articles on Apartment Therapy with the theme "you probably need these things" or "things you have that you don't need" or "things you have too much of" or "essential things you definitely need," etc. It's good to stop and consider whether we really need these things, and I'm glad that Apartment Therapy isn't like a glossy magazine always encouraging us to buy, buy, buy. But on the other hand, this is getting kind of ridiculous. Everyone's lifestyles are different; generalizing about what people need or don't need is basically meaningless. I have a similar problem: my newlywed furniture and decor leans toward shabby chic when that's NOT my style anymore. I really want to go more happy modern, but I don't have the money to replace everything. What would you suggest for purging your apartment of shabby chic-ness? My husband grimaces whenever I cook chicken, and justifiably so. So today I followed the technique in this article, and the chicken was AMAZING. It was moist and lightly golden brown and so tender. I am guilty of treating my apartment like a temporary stop, and not like a home. I'd love to paint and invest in space-specific furniture, but my husband wouldn't understand. He really doesn't care what color the walls are, and would see painting them as a huge waste of money and time. Meanwhile the white walls are irritating me. 5 Things I Never Did to a Rental But Probably Should Have Renters Solutions |
