Polenta Versus Grits: What's the Difference?

i just made the lazy woman's version of this--well, several of these--over the weekend. i used the microwave caramel sauce recipe from gimme some oven, and i used a cake mix instead of making the cake from scratch. i made 6-inch diameter cakes instead of a big one, and only used 2 layers instead of the 3 faith says she uses. the results were DELICIOUS, even with the one cake i made where i forgot to swirl in the caramel with the cake mix before baking. no complaints at all from any of the recipients. this is most definitely in my rotation.
thanks for the wonderful recipe!

maybe i just never gave my garlic press a fair chance, but i'm more enamored of my garlic zoom. it only does about one clove at a time, but it's a very fine mince without the mush that i seem to get with a press. i also use it for onions, which i pretty much hate, so i want them in the smallest possible pieces when i cook with them.

I know posting in the comments has nothing to do with entering the giveaway, but i just want to say again how absolutely freakin' beautiful that is!

Ditto on the cherry pitter--only used for a short time each year but I use the HECK out of it.
i LOVE my garlic zoom. Also the 4-cup food processor (the 3-cup was just too small) and the immersion blender.
Recently bought a Joseph Joseph herb chopper and yeah ... more flash than function. (I've always thought the same of Casabella products, too.)

"When storing breads in freezer, make sure the bread is well wrapped so it retains moisture." Well-wrapped in what? Above that line is a pic of a loaf of bread wrapped in cloth, and I can't imagine it would keep that way. I assume you mean plastic wrap or a plastic bag?
and p.s.: hellno let it breath when it comes out of the oven! ain't nothing in the world like a slice of freshly baked & still warm homemade bread with butter!

maybe i'm doing it wrong, but except for the sponge, the kitchen towel, and the lint trap, every one of those things would take me at least 10 minutes. (the ceiling fan? i have 10-foot ceilings, so just getting the ladder out is time consuming.

@m@thew: do you mean the Geometric Tile by Daniel Ogassian for Ann Sacks? although, yeah, it can be kind of hard to find things on this site sometimes. (big ups from back in the day, though; it's like a thousand times better.)
that is one fugly marble sink.
i'm still waiting for some kindhearted company with a guilt complex for not doing enough to help those poor katrina victims to come remodel my tiny bathroom.

@chartreuse, you make a good point, but ... paying $800 for the new unit and another god-knows-how-much to have a tankless installed isn't in my cards right now. (kindly refrain from a condescending attitude about stuff like that, m'kay?)

my hot water heater is outside in a small metal shed, which is de rigueur for older houses in new orleans. i'd LOVE to get it inside, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.

crap. i thought this was going to save the day. i have a TON of company coming at the end of the month, and although i already own a twilight sleeper (craigslist purchase) and the now discontinued ikea lessebo, along with a sectional in the living room, i'm going to be one twin bed short. i've been looking for something more along the lines of this sleeper chair, but for an adult (dammit!), not a small child. i need something compact & lightweight ... like those groovy sleeper poufs y'all featured a few years back (and which are, of course, discontinued). cheap (money-wise, not quality wise) would be good, too. help?
