You can always add a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide. It extends the shelf life of milk considerably--it's used it in 3rd world countries where refridgeration is at a premium. For the squeamish, you can use food grade hydrogen peroxide, but i've always used the stuff in the medicine cabinet that you put on cuts.

This sounds like a clear-cut case of creating a problem where none exists. It's a pain to take down/put up the shower curtain & liner (I use both, and it's at least a pain in my case) but just throw it in the washer.

Warning on the fridge: I have what I thought was a top-of-the-line Samsung 4-door French door refrigerator and it's been nothing but trouble. After 14 (fourteen!) service calls, the warranty company finally bought me out of the contract. (What started out as a problem with the in-door ice maker led to sporadic total shutdowns, which meant loss of hundreds of dollars of food.) I still LOVE the design, but the execution ... not so much. I won't hop on their new product bandwagon again.

Friend of mine who's a chef used to do an "orphan" Thanksgiving. Started out with 4 or so people & ended a few years later with 80 or so people. A couple of us put up the $ to buy the stuff, and the last year I (against my friend's wishes) put out a tip jar. We recouped about $80. Possibly tacky, but still classier than asking a guest to pay for a holiday meal with friends.

"I hardly dared weigh myself for the first several weeks, ,,, ." You can tell from this statement that 1) you're not a dieter and 2) you didn't lose any weight. After a few weeks if you don't notice a difference in the way your clothes feel, either the "diet" is crap or you're doing it wrong.
Having said that, it's about--or *should be* about--eating healthy. That part seems to have worked for you.

i just made the lazy woman's version of this--well, several of these--over the weekend. i used the microwave caramel sauce recipe from gimme some oven, and i used a cake mix instead of making the cake from scratch. i made 6-inch diameter cakes instead of a big one, and only used 2 layers instead of the 3 faith says she uses. the results were DELICIOUS, even with the one cake i made where i forgot to swirl in the caramel with the cake mix before baking. no complaints at all from any of the recipients. this is most definitely in my rotation.
thanks for the wonderful recipe!

maybe i just never gave my garlic press a fair chance, but i'm more enamored of my garlic zoom. it only does about one clove at a time, but it's a very fine mince without the mush that i seem to get with a press. i also use it for onions, which i pretty much hate, so i want them in the smallest possible pieces when i cook with them.
