Sigh, I never fell out of love with the best apartment ever, but I had to move to New York. I was very excited about the new life ahead of me, and very optimistic about the changes that were coming. Sadly, I went from Shangri La to Shit Hole. I miss my old apartment every day. Yes, I've tried to move forward with my life but every time I see a roach strolling along my kitchen counter I think about how I paid $250 less for my last apartment and never saw any vermin, had much more light, a washer and dryer, a back porch and a beautiful tree right outside my window with a family of blue jays living in it. I hate New York.

The wire gates are to keep flies out?! Dear god!!! How big are the flies? Do they carry crowbars? ;-)

I glanced at this post earlier today and I though the "before" was the after!! I was wondering where/why the heck they got that carpet!?

PEOPLE!! The middle of the aisle is not a good place to leave your cart. It is also not a good place to stand and talk on the phone, review your coupons or any other loitering. In fact, doorways, tops of escalators, middle of sidewalks, driveways, etc. are not good places to stand around spacing out.

YES! Centipedes are a Chicago thing! I hate them, they are so freaky and so big and run so fast. I always see them after it rains.

I grew up in the suburbs and I never saw them until I moved to the city. I remember the first time I saw one in my first apartment. I was so freaked out that I developed a migraine and had to go to bed.

I'd have to pass. I found out that quite a few people died tragic deaths in my old apartment which was in an old greystone two flat. How did I found out? People were coming up to me as I was clearing my stuff out in the days after the building burned down. Everyone was telling me how brave I was to live there. I wasn't brave, I was ignorant.

Why do so many commentators think they know him well enough to be surprised by his home? You all must be some pretty serious fans of his! Obviously there's serious fans of hip-hop too!!! Just when you thought you knew all there was to know about hip-hop artist one of them surprises you by collecting art!!! WOW!!!

Anyway, yes, I do think pop art works as a design inspiration in a minimalist interior. Thanks for asking!

I have my large, framed vintage poster of The Wiz on my front door! It's in a chrome frame and I've never had a problem with it falling or rattling. It's a one of a kind poster that I love but I'm not worried about it!

I grew up in a 2 bedroom apartment in Oak Park, IL with my Mom, Dad, and sister. My sister and I shared a room until I was 16. This was not the norm in Oak Park. All of my friends lived in huge houses, with front and backyards! My family was comfortable in our apartment and it is the setting for many of my most exciting dreams.

I'd also like to add that Chicago has the most exquisite architecture. I pass the Mies Van de Rohe designed campus of IIT on my way to work. The campus is surrounded by gorgeous greystone mansions that have been converted to beautiful apartments and condos. Once I'm downtown the design and details of the Monadnock building, the Harold Washington Library, and the lofts and apartments in the old print shops in Printers Row bring beauty to gloomy days like today. Chicago is the most beautiful city in America, and you don't have to be rich to enjoy it!

I think a reason for the decline in population was the demolition of public housing. The worlds largest public housing project was torn down and many of those people had nowhere to go. So many of them moved to the suburbs where more landlords accepted section 8 vouchers. At it's peak there were 27,000 residents in the Robert Taylor Homes (this excludes the many many other public housing projects across the city). 2300 mixed income residences have been built to semi-replace them.

Chicago's winters are horrible. But for $715/month I live in a 800sq. ft. studio apartment where I don't pay for heat and it's always very toasty. I live 2 short blocks from the train, and my apartment has a full sized washer and dryer. Yes, winter sucks here, but once I'm home I couldn't be any more comfortable at this price.
