It was really hard for me to stop staring at the plants.

On another note, and this is not a criticism, just a question. Is the site leaning towards California homes these days? I haven't been a regular for a while, but I used to think it leaned towards New York spaces. Just curious.

Thank you for sharing. Beautiful, although I see no trace of an NYC apartment.

While I would prefer to shop in person for most things, I have found better financial deals online for the most part. When I can see something in person and then find it online, that is usually the best method to ensure I have the best understanding of the quality/feel/size. color etc. along with the best price.

All that said, having had to recently furnish a new place from scratch I have purchased a number of pieces from overstock.com and it has been an incredible resource.

After far too long of waiting and debating, I purchased a living room rug. All along I had planned to buy a modern designed rug and had several options selected. When push came to shove I chose a persian rug. I think it was a great decision as it made my space instantly feel warmer and more like home than a rental loft. I don't know that the modern large print rugs I had initially planned for would have had that effect.
It took some effort to find one without red (my least favorite color), but I found a lovely blue, and tan to fit my sensibilities.
I thikn Persian rugs do for me what handmade quilts do-they make a place feel more settled, comfortable, and like home.

Id be curious to see the bedroom curtains closed. My bedroom is a similar size and window set up and I arranged it in the same fashion. I have been debating floor to ceiling drapes behind the bed to add some interest (and cover up an annoying off center window at night).

I'm in agreement with most of the comments-these items are over the top and would be wasted on me as a host. Wine is as well, as we don't drink or serve it in the home. But most people who know me know that, I don't bring it.
I have received lovely useful host gifts that I'd recommend over anything listed here.
1-Just a few weeks ago I was brought fresh cider. We actually ended up drinking it all before dinner was even served.
2-Flowers. Flowers always are welcome here.
3-Music. This may not work for everyone, but we are big on music in my home and in my social circle. Years ago a friend brought a new album that I and everyone loved. Now, someone almost always comes to my affairs with something that I can plan and/keep.

I don't think anyone has ever spent more than 10 dollars on these things, probably significantly less (i.e. the price of ripping a mix cd)

Don't mind me, but can you please share where you got the wooden chair with the cushion?

Amazing textiles, creates such warmth. I have a much different (sterile modern) type of space but am trying to create that warmth by doing more with fabrics. I am going to pretend not to be jealous of the backyard.

Thanks Kaete. I am not familiar with that other section; I guess this is not new.

I don't think kids should be "hidden", but I find it worrisome to include a child's full (and unique) name and pictures of their family home on a website. Apart from safety reasons, this remains online forever and a google of his name will bring his personal childhood family life up to anyone. I don't know, I guess people are doing that now a days. I don't think its the wisest move.

Nice that they have created a home they enjoy.

With that said, is it really a good idea to feature a child so prominently on this web site?
I have admittedly been away from AT for a while, but this seems new and to me, a bit worrisome.
