@katieb82981: can't the boyfriend defrost his own chicken? or eat the tasty tofu & sricha?

I have tried menu planning. Tried the Flylady's fave, the Menu Mailer. All end up failing. I succumb to impulse and we eat baked chicken with rice and a vegetable about 3 times a week, pizza at least once and leftovers made new the other nights. It works.

Baked butternut squash with cinnamon, butter and brown sugar. Lots of brown sugar.

Nothing can replace bacon. Nothing.

Except more bacon.

I just use my insulated cup, like I would for a hot drink. An insulated cup keeps your beverage either hot or cold, depending on how it started out. Easy and green.

My potatoes always turn green. I've tried the paper bag, the refrigerator, the basement, they still turn green. I've given up.

wow, this got more comments than most Kitchn posts.

I love cilantro, love the aroma and the flavour. Just smelling a bunch of it in the grocery store cheers me endlessly.

I think it's either genetic or related to allergies. I find the smell of caraway seeds nauseating and recently discovered that I'm allergic to them. Guess my body was telling me something.

Yum! We had blueberry pancakes yesterday morning. I didn't have enough flour, so I added some corn meal. They turned out super yummy.

I love Epicurious, it allowed me to let go of my collection of Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines. Love that you can save recipes to your "recipe box".

I get a lot of cookbooks from the library. Mostly ones I know I'll want to read through rather than cook from.

My mom used to make french fries at home, from real potatoes, fried in oil on the stove. They were good, man. I can't imagine doing that. Fried chicken? No way! I would be afraid of burning it on the outside and leaving it raw inside.

I used to be afraid of steak until we started eating a Paleo-style diet (i.e. lots of meat, vegetables & fruits and easy on the grains). Now it's a snap, either on the grill outside or the grill pan inside. I just started trusting that I could do it. The trick? Cook it until it's almost done to your taste then remove it from the grill/pan and tent it with foil for a bit. Finishes nicely.

I love my $15 IKEA grill pan! It's great for steak, leaving wonderful "grill" marks on the meat. It cleans up easily and is dishwasher safe. A great pan. Oh, and despite the raised grill rails, I can make a mean pan sauce in it.

Ridiculous! More work for the pie maker. I do love King Arthur flours, but their catalog is full of one-use gadgets. Sure, they look pretty on the page, but they're the sorts of things that will just clog up the cupboards.

And darn it, now I want pie.

Senator Obama's mom was named Stanley by her dad, who had hoped for a boy. Not a cool reason to give your kid that name, imho.

I like the idea of re-doing garishly coloured baby items, but in this case, it seems like a lot of work for an item that is only used for a few months. Still, if it floats your boat, go for it.

Caraway! The smell alone makes me want to puke. And, turns out, I'm also allergic to it.

Dill ain't so hot either, but not puke worthy.

I love grocery shopping, which is hard on the food budget (and the pantry shelves). I deliberatly have to keep a firm hand on my spending and browsing, lest I fill the fridge with more than we can use.

Shopping primarily at my local (2 blocks away) and supplementing with Costco trips keeps the budget sane. I get my kicks from the occassional farmer's market or Whole Foods trip.

I've got chicken defrosting to grill for dinner, the sun is actually shining, and I picked up two lovely Tuscan cantaloupes for only $1.25 each-the fragrance of them is divine!

Would one need to go to a liquor store to find Lillet or is it considered a wine and thus available at the grocery? I'm in WA state if that helps...
