Justifying the cost of cut flowers has been hard for me in the past. But I found a really wonderful solution! Lately, I've been getting hydrangea plants from Trader Joes $7-8. I cut the bloomed flowers for an instant arrangement. Then I plant the rest in my little garden for more flowers next year!!!!

This Cure is so great - where else can you get a tangent discussion about anchors and mollybolts? I took allisongryski's idea and fixed a slow moving drain in my bathtub by removing the plug and clearing out the (ahem) debris. I've been meaning to do it for a month and haven't been able to get the stopper off. Gotta love that youtube for any handyman dilemmas. Watched the "Cleaning Bathtub Drain Lift and Turn Stopper" and voila, mission accomplished!! You're right Maxwell, it DOES feel good!

I love my Dyson slim too! The challenge for me is not to get all ocd on this and have 20 minutes turn into 2 hours. So this is the perfect bite to practice moderation. Thanks Maxwell!!!

C'est tres magnifique! I attempted (ahem) last winter's cure and it was overwhelming in the scheme of life at that time. This 20/20 is perfect!! Looking forward to it ...

I haven't commented for a long time, but feel compelled to say that the transformed spaces are an amazing model for the rest of us beginners to xeriscaping. Can Christel and/or Chris talk about some of the drought tolerant plants they used and why they chose them for certain spaces?

Also, love the pointed uses of color in each area. With more spotlights like this, people will begin to appreciate the beauty of succulents and get away from the dreaded dried-out cactus garden image.

Hi Bridget, I am very inspired by your home - thanks for sharing. Your sanctuary is serene and comfortable and definitely not "country". Great reminder to get only what you really love. Only what you really love, only what you really. Must remember, only what I really love.

This is sort of loosy-goosy ... but I take a cup of rolled oats, few scoops of natural peanut butter, generous squeeze of honey and sprinkles of flour. Mix em together until you get a consistency you like and scoop onto baking pan like little cookies ("treats"). Smells and tastes like peanut butter cookies and most doggie friends like them.

Love your whole place ... I don't find it cold at all. And thanks for the recap of sources. So many great ideas! I have the exact size kitchen with different living area layout and love the openess of the shelving.

I recently replaced an old leaky skylight with a beautiful clear blue sky, see everything perfectly one. Well fast-fwd to one month later and it was so dingy I could no longer see through it. Dismay. "Sigh". However, the first rain of the season came a couple weeks after that and voila! It is crystal clear again. I assume that I will hire a pro to clean it during the dry california summer and leave the rest to mother Nature.

Thx for the reassurance Laura. I consistently renew my home design magazines to support them. It is my guilty pleasure. An affordable indulgence. It makes me happy. Blueprint was my favorite, and I also subscribe to O at Home and House Beautiful. Domino has now become my "happy place" mag. I have been faithful since their first issue. Please editors, if you read these boards ... there IS a market and there will be a great gap in that market if the trend continues. I think had we known that Blueprint was on a failing revenue trend, then perhaps more people would have supported it by gift subscriptions and such. Please don't keep blindsiding us ... ask for help when all seems lost.

This is now on the top of my house tour favorites. What I particularly like is that the family retains some cheekiness and fun without crazy patterns and colors splashed everywhere. It is classic yet fresh, and must be as comfortable and welcoming as it looks!

oh yes, overstock is on my toolbar next to apartment therapy and craigslist. up to a couple months ago, my favorite rug was a 5x8' modern wool rug from overstock. i was very apprehensive about buying something that I would not attempt to return because of its size. so i took all of the reviews into consideration and took the plunge. the rug was far "more" than i expected. my newest favorite is a pair of wool runners with a beautiful monochromatic graphic that i again got from overstock. i do caution to check the measurements closely because sometimes the picture is not accurate. call or chat with one of their reps if you need more info than is on the site. good luck!

love the open box look (1st pic) - so clean. but you'd have to really be disciplined with only the bare nightstand essentials and a few books.
