Ditto re handy dad... Mine is ticketed in various trades and is a marvel. I married someone whose talents lie elsewhere so I am still calling my dad for help (but making sure I am tactful about it in front of my sweet husband). and I'm learning how to do it myself from my father. His line to call a pro usually is dictated by extensive time required or professional equipment needed.

It's nice to see I'm not alone in the idea Beth and Viv mentioned... To the horror of my family, we had the same discussion before the birth of both our girls, and they both share my last name, which was what we had decided before knowing gender. The most common things I heard about our decision was "you'll confuse the children if they have different last names" (which had never seemed to me something that would faze a child, but I'm sure others will have their own take on it) and "what about your husband? He won't have anyone with his name?!" (....!) I support tradition, but we are starting our own traditions based on how we think. Incidentally, we gave the girls my husbands surname as a middle name, as a nod to his family.

I have those curtains in my LR/DR, and I can attest to the fact that they are actually a very thick fabric, more like the usual upholstery fabric used on chairs and so on - and they also spot clean very well (I have toddlers). So I think this chair might be hardier than it looks - and it really does look beautiful!

I agree with covering or replacing the existing fabric with something fun and graphic, and putting basket(s) below to hold what you need. From the photo I can't tell what it is - but could you remove the white thing and sew a simple sling (like the book slings sewn for mounting on double curtain rods) to sit between those two front bars? It strikes me as a good place to keep the things you need within quick reach (wipes, cream, next diaper) without having to duck down to your bigger baskets. I think it will be adorable!

I've though about this post and did comment negatively - but it's true that the mom who put on the party obviously did it out of love and with quite a bit of creativity. Online forums are difficult - any negative posts always end up being seen as a jealous attack on someone... But it does make it scary to put your hard work and your family up for display/judgement! I would never want to hurt her feelings. It's easy to put out a critical opinion, especially when it's a topic that prompts such strong gut reactions. Lucky little girl to have such a fun mom - and I'll make my decisions for my own kids. And I didn't mention before that I thought the frame was terrific!

I can't add much about the inappropriateness of the theme - made me extremely uncomfortable. I feel bad for the mom too - I know she was trying to do something fun for her little one. I wish the world wasn't full of these kinds of (seemingly innocuous) messages about female sexuality, but it is, and I need to teach my girls not to buy into it.

I usually do this while naming what I am massaging and talking to my baby... Both of my daughters would giggle when they started to recognize the words that preceded their ticklish spots. It's a great prebath ritual.

The creativity in these shots is mind-blowing - I aspire to COPY just one! Lovely, sentimental, and very funny at the same time.

Lovely nursery! I chose yellow for #2's nursery too after seeing so many lovely uses of it on ohdeedoh and elsewhere... I have tissue flowers in the nursery closet and was just debating hanging them in a cluster, but I'm stumped by how. What did you use - hooks? Tacks? Some other amazing thing that will not destroy my ceiling?

I like more fabric than I can keep track of, but was also underwhelmed by crib bedding... If you have the time to order it, you can have an etsy seller make a set for you. I ordered the pieces I wanted from RockyTopDesigns, and she (and other sellers) have tons of beautiful fabric palettes to browse through and choose from... Maybe that would work for you too?

I just made a teepee for my daughters second birthday... I'm not an experienced sewer, but the book I used gave clear directions, and we made a frame based on their instructions using hardware store dowels (ours is modified to use in or outside and also collapses). Instructions in this book: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/186-0519052-5663706?a=1906094268

Her birthday is in 3 weeks and I know she's going to love it (she's fort-crazy already).

lovely lovely room... if you're still checking in on your post, can you tell me how your daughter is enjoying her window seat? I can't tell the depth of the seat from the pictures - there's a similar ledge in my daughter's bedroom, and I've been debating whether or not it's deep enough to function with a cushion. Love the colors in the room - very inspiring!

for me: my feet had to be up when I nursed, and there had to be somewhere to rest my arms! ... to repeat much of the above, we also didn't use a rocker... our chair is just a comfy IKEA armchair with ottoman... my mom was adamant that you must have a rocker, so we borrowed one from them and never used it. The armchair and ottoman is now a great spot for reading in the corner of her room, and a good surface for her to look at books on her own. Like everything baby-related, probably no dogma will sum it up... choose whatever is comfortable for you. And like complainypants said, you'll probably enjoy little trips out of the house if you realize that you need something different.

I bought the bird valentine from Three Wheels Design, and it is even cuter in print than it was on the website... printing these great designs yourself is definitely the way to go.
