After getting married, I hyphenated my last name. My husband was concerned that I would try to do the same for our children (heaven forbid!). I assured him that while I have a strong connection to living this many years as a certain person (first AND last name), my kids are born in a marriage where both their parents have the same last-last name. I do plan on giving any son I have my original last name as his first. With all the girls in the family, there is no carrying on that name. My husband happily agreed.
