I think that the problem with before wasn't the wood panelling, it was the tired old mismatched furniture and furnishings. Those red chairs are cool, but they really didn't suit that room, and it looked weird with them in front of the fireplace.
I would have loved it if they had replaced the furniture and window treatments, and kept the wood panelling. Do they even have window treatments now? The room has gone from cosy to stark in my opinion.
Bar looks awesome though.

Looking at that unfenced pool gives me the creeps. Are there not laws about that there?

I agree with SQ, remove trapezoid, keep mantle, TV above mantle.
I would remove the top one or two shelves on each side, and paint the wall black, if money wasn't an object I'd replace the glass shelves with black wooden ones.
PS, Aimee I love your style.

Super cute!!! But are they hydrangea's in the baskets above the bath? That would be a little hard to maintain.
I love the sink too.

We have polished concrete through our kitchen, dining room and lounge, which has been ground back to show all the stones in the concrete mix. It looks fantastic, but I am a little worried because I have read that concrete will grab oil and not let go, leaving you with a big oily stain forever, because it is porus. I'm just hoping that the water based sealer does it's job, someone is bound to drop oil in the kitchen one day.

The concrete is really nice and cool right now because it's summer, and we have underfloor heating running through there for winter. I really recommend it if you are building.

Wow! I can't believe how many comments there are about the humble vacum. We have the Dyson Animal and it's really, really good. The only thing is that my hair gets tangled around the spinning part of the carpet attachment. We also have an Electrolux Rechargable Ergorapido, which I use to clean up the kitchens, bathrooms and window sills (flies aargh!!) midweek.

It's so funny, what one person loves another will hate. I don't get the Keep Calm thing either, ditto the bus blinds. I have some friends who, in my humble opinion, went totally overboard with the MCM, I feel like I'm stuck in a time warp when I go to their house!

Any kind of gratuitous book stacking or knick-nack displying, If you don't love it then it's just more stuff to dust.

But I really, really want a cowhide!

Wow! I live in New Zealand and I didn't know that you guys don't have those things, especially the kettle (although here it's called a jug) and the on/off switch on the power socket.
Also, the mesh dome covers for food are a life saver, my one has lace around the edges to prevent the flies crawling under, it also folds up like an umbrella to fit in a drawer. At the moment it's summer and I'm using it every day. Lifesaver, mate!

I helped my parents purge their house last weekend. They are hoarders so it wasn't easy, we actually had an argument because they didn't want to get rid of a Beatles calendar from 2003!!! They thought it might be worth something, I said fine, put it on ebay, but remember I'm going to call you and ask how much you got for it.
So because I like to rebel, and for fear of having a house that looks anything like my parent's place, I am a purger and it feels good.

I like the idea of the money in a frame. I recently made an 'artwork' using vintage stamps, a money picture next to it would look awesome. Thanks!!

I wanted to use it on the lounge facing side of our kitchen island/ bar. Sadly I was vetoed by the man of the house. I still think it would have looked fabulous.

I say put it away! We just had a walk-in wardrobe installed and it was the best money we ever spent, all my bags are on a shelf, scarves are looped around coat hangers (four to a hanger) and on the rail, I put some of those 3M hooks along the wall for necklaces, while rings, bangles, watches and things live in a basket on the shelf. I also have a belt organizer which hangs on the rail next to the scarves.
I have been wearing accessories so much more now that they are away, but within reach, Before I leave the house I literally go and stand in the wardrobe and decorate myself, kinda like a Christmas tree!
That said, we both work in fashion so we are surrounded by racks and tables of clothes all day, it's the last thing I want to see when I get home.

That's a great idea, I hope they do that where I live too. At a cafe that I go to they have found a good use for their phone books, they are using them to prop up the coffee grinder.

Yes! We use ours all the time. We always eat breakfast at the bar and dinner when it's just the two of us. For parties I like to put a platter of cheese and olives etc on the bar, so people always start off hanging out there, even if they end the evening on the sofa. We built our house and the only thing that I would change would be to not have the pantry directly behind the bar, as I'm always embarrassed when guests are sitting at the bar and can see right into my untidy pantry!

I like it better before, those wooden doors were really cool. I think it would have looked great if they painted rest of the cabinets white and left the doors, maybe got some new handles and a new splash.
Now it just makes me want to yawn. Sorry.
