Definitely peel some skin with a peeler and bake it until fully dried. It'll be great in spice/chai/mulling mixes, and anything that can use an orange-flavour boost.

It'll make your kitchen smell like an orangey dream as well :)

At least 550?

Sigh.. I get excited if my oven even reaches 500.

My pantry looks like a spastic version of that top one. I collect every container that can be reused and store my dried goods in it. It's not the easiest to organize, but it keeps out critters, and keeps things fresh.

I'm really not scared of germs or dirt. However, having a bike tire hanging that low over my stove burners seems not only unsafe, but kind of gross. While I might not keep things sterile, I also wouldn't cook under something that's main function is to ride through dirt, grime, and regular road grossness.

I have an extra-deep fridge, so to make it easier to group things and grab them, I buy my spinach or mixed greens in huge, rectangular plastic containers, which I then use as drawers. I'm now doing the same thing in my freezer, after it broke recently and there was meat blood everywhere -- all the frozen meat is placed in one of the plastic containers.

I prefer slightly round or curved handles that are good for gripping, and larger pots that taper perfectly for smaller elements.

Oh oh.. Biggest gripe about pots and pans -- bolts/grooves/etc on the inside of a pot or pan that catches food easily and is a pain to clean.

For the person who wants to put zero effort into buying a set, it looks fine. However, going through the list, I mentally added up approximate prices for each of those pieces, and got the same amount or less -- which means it's more for convenience than savings.

For example, I have myself a larger stainless steel bowl set that has 5 bowls -- 3/4 to 8 quart, and it was $10 for all of them. They want $30 for 3. My pastry scraper is all stainless steel, looks nicer, and it is $5 to their $8 "value."

It's better to just do a little research on the local kitchen store options and go from there.. Or do it online!

To me, the microwave serves two purposes: speed up and heat up.

I'll use the microwave to nuke my baked potatoes before transferring them to my toaster oven to get crispy, melt butter, and to reheat leftovers. Oh, and most often: a quick 10-second nuke to tomatoes when they're too cold from the fridge.

But for regular cooking -- no way! I did that as a kid, when the units first got big, but it's just not the same.
