A must have for people without dishwashers is good quality dishwashing gloves (reusable and washable). After living in my current apartment over 6 years without a dishwasher, I figured out that the reason I hated washing dishes had a lot to do with the way my hands would prune-up/ wrinkle after doing them. I hated the feel of them. Though, I usually wash as I go, those times when the dishes do pile up in the sink, I don't mind doing them because I can use super hot water and my hands are protected.
