Ohmigosh! These are the twins from HGTV Design Star!!!!! They are so talented and so kind. Their home is just gorgeous, but I wouldn't expect any less. They do interior design and Oprah wears their jewelry on her show all the time!!!! HGTV was crazy not to give them their own show.

She was one of my favorite architecture professors at Harvard. So talented and lively. It's reflected well in her home.

But "glossy paint" is not the same thing as epoxy. It definitely won't look the same with just glossy paint becuase you want a mirror finish.

I stack and lean. Who says you can't have it both ways! I have 3 large euro sham style pillows that I lean against my headboard. In front of those I stack 4 pillows. Very comfy.

I would be SO annoyed to see my bed while having dinner or entertaining. It's like leaving your underwear on display. And your bed would ALWAYS have to be impeccably neat or your space would look like a pig sty.

It's funny. Early 20th century phychologists recommended painting kitchens green because they belived the color would calm women down and make them less psychologically nervous. The woman's place was in the kitchen, you see. That being said, you have quite a color on your hands. You have TONS of options here

(A): If you want to stay in the green family, I suggest re-painting in a softer pastel mint green. White and black accents can be popped off of it with fantastic results and the color might work better with your gray walls. One thing to remember: You're going to have to paint over everything w/ a white primer first because your current green is so dark. If you don't, the darker color will always peek under the lighter one unless you add 3 or 4 coats of the light paint.

(B): Some other pastel color, like a Tiffany blue. That always looks great w/ white accents like your cabinets.

Good luck and have fun with it! It's just paint!

Extremely NOT hot. But that just has to be a rhetorical question.

I hate this. I really do. I find it dreadful and clumsy.

OK, Adam, here you go:

1. The white walls are doing nothing for you, man. The room (or at the very least that wall) is dying for color. You've already established a color scheme w/ your selection of the carpet, so pick from there and paint the wall(s). If you're worried about paint, then art will work too.

2. As for the TV stand, it's the wrong scale for the wall. You need something longer. I suggest a credenza from IKEA that gives you more storage and a large surface for display. It will work nicely w/ the Danish modern aesthetic you're going for.

3. That gorgeous chair you inherited just doesn't want to be in that doorway. I'm not sure what's going on on the other side of the room, but maybe your chair wants to be there.

4. The coffee table is a nice pick. Let's start to introduce something on top of it. A large book of interest, a small vase of flowers, 1 or 2 pieces of glasswork. Anything really. What do you like?

5. New throw pillows for your couch. It's a neutral color, so you can pop anything off of it. A fastastic color, an interesting print. IKEA has TONS of these that you can slip then over your existing pillows.

That's just a start, but you"ll be impressed by what major impact a little intervention can have.

I agree with sniplet. I bought the west elm pin tuck sheets and pillow cases. Every time I would make the bed and adjust the seets, the thread in a tuck would snap and the tuck would fall out. I absolutely HATED these sheets and ended up throwing them out along w/ the pillow cases in a matter of months. The thread count is also VERY low for my tastes. I ended up going w/ Frete bed linens and have not regretted it for a single second.

You have to have a colossal amount of space and breathing room to pull off black walls. I fear people in tiny apts might try this and I assure you--the results will NOT be pretty. That being said, j'adore the photos.

I hate West Elm's linens. The pin tuck feels like sandpaper and the tucks easily tear. I recommend Frete. They are having a fantastic sale right now and they truly are the best and most luxurious linens in the world.

Seems to me like part of this is also motivated by greed. Get in low, suffer during the reno, let the children suffer and eventually build an asset worth a ton of cash. Guess it's just an issue of how much your comfort (and that of your children in some cases) is worth to you.

Don't know about this one. Considering the state of the economy, you might end up getting a 'little' fired, then you can stay in bed as long as you want. That is, as long as you still have a bed...and a roof over your head.

There's a thin line between discheveled and a mess. I wonder which side of the room this mag will fall on. Pretty much everyone can agree that they wouldn't let a camera crew into their home to shoot it without doing some tidying up first--even the neatest of us. I wonder in this mag if it's REALLY a mess or just a stylized mess. Personally, in my apartment I like to maintain a general degree of cleanliness that allows me to make everything perfect in 5 minutes if I get an unexpected visitor or someone drops by on short notice.
