It took me an oddly long time to be OK with unmatching wood in rooms in my home (I guess my parents always had furniture sets). I have come to really appreciate thrift store, yard sale, and second hand finds to furnish my home and obviously this means pieces in each room will never match. I tend to limit the variation per room to a similar range of warm deep red/browns tones or white wash and ash/blonde tones. It is more about loving each piece and the evolution of the room with each piece for me. On the other hand, if my OCD ever bleeds through again, I can always refinish the real wood pieces I have accumulated to match better.
