Pi - you are exactly right. Those of us with children often opt for landlines not only so our kids don't hog our iPhones but also in case of a serious emergency, 911 will know where to send the responders. GPS and location information is not immediately available when you call 911 from a cell phone (as far as I understand), but our landlines are connected to our street address, so in case of a fire (or worse), responders will be able to fund us quickly. 6 Devices That Can Help You Trim Your Monthly Bills |

I did this in a park last summer. Potluck toppings, and I brought the ice cream. I'm fussy and a hoarder/collector, so I supplied all the fancy glass soda fountain sundae dishes. Next time we'll definitely do cones. Brilliant! I'm a huge proponent of park parties - no preclean, no huge post-clean, no stress! Best Kids Parties: Ice Cream My Party |

The picture in the post above just seems cold and sterile to me. I think the style reminds me of my friend's parents' house, when we were kids. The two least affectionate people I've ever met. All the matchy-matchiness and perfectly clean in that house still makes me a little bit sad. No kids' artwork on display, not a toy box in sight. My mom had us keep a very clean house, but we could make messes and play with everything. I'd rather have cozy than formal! Do You Live In A Grownup House? |

seems like it would look good in a mid-century bedroom. Appeals to me visually, but it doesn't look comfy. Reviving the Fitted Bedspread |

LEGO! Every time my boys get sick I throw all their tiny plastic toys in the dishwasher on "sanitize." Lego blocks, dinosaurs, action figures, tiny cars all go in. Yeah, we've lost a few over the years but we've never suffered a lack of these toys, I swear they reproduce. A mesh lingerie bag or a zipped pillow cover works great to keep everything together. Hand-me-down furniture until our kids were old enough to respond to our commands - no feet on the furniture, no eating here, get those Sharpies off our couch! The kids are 11 and 5, and we just bought new living room furniture last January. We went mid-range, with very washable forgiving fabric in a dark, herringbone patterned microfiber. Seems to be holding up so far... You can pick a nice piece of furniture as long as you get durable, washable fabric. Furnishing the Family Room: How Did Kids Alter Your Choices? |

large container plant arrangements flanking the windows, and a smaller one by the door. I'm thinking 5-6' evergreens at the windows. Make sure the hardware on the door and light fixture are clean, bug-free and polished. Make sure your porch is immaculate - sweep and scrub it, maybe pressure wash or repaint the steps if you can. Just THIS. Exactly. Holy cow, it's so nice to read about people who are EXACTLY LIKE US. Disgustingly "original" wood floors still needing to be refinished, half-done paint projects, etc. etc. We did get the baseboards up last year though!
