I took an intro to sewing class last weekend in LA at The Urban Craft Center. I don't feel confident to do a quilt yet, but I know my way around the machine.

I did 2 DIY projects with them and they turned out great. I just uploaded the file and the posters arrived in the mail. You can choose what kind of paper you want (hi-gloss, semi-gloss, etc.) They even proof your file to make sure it's hi-res, correct dimensions, etc.

As for the framing, I went to Arron Brothers.
For one of the pictures I was flexible with my dimensions, so I bought the largest pre-made frame they had and made that the dimensions of my picture.
For the other picture I knew I wanted it to be 60" x 60" so I had to go custom. Aaron Brothers wanted to charge me over $350 for the frame and plexi glass. That was too steep for me so I ended up just having them make the frame for $160 and I bought the plexi glass myself for $60. When the frame was ready, I brought them the art and the plexi glass and they set the picture and put on the fancy frame backing for me.

i got the exact same sputnik in perfect condition at the long beach flea market a few weeks ago for $75! I don't think the guy knew what he had. yay flea markets!

I went with 15 watt satin white chandelabra bulbs. mine has 10 arms so that is 150 watts which is plenty. I may put in a dimmer, haven't decided yet.

i prefer the round bulbs to the ones that Gigi818 suggests, but that's just my opinion. the guy at the light bulb store said that they are the kind of bulbs used in vanities

I am a jewelry designer and I carve a lot of my original designs out of blocks of wax and then have them cast into metal (much less scrap metal that way which is necessary when gold is almost $1000/oz). Anyway, one day I was gathering up all of my bench sweepings to throw them out when I got a little tickle on the tip of my nose and sneezed... right into my 3" x 15" drawer full of wax fillings. They flew everywhere! I'm still finding little wax shavings in nooks all over my apartment. It would have really helped if I had a vacuum like this one to clean things up :)
