I vote for the White Saarinen, too. The simple, uncluttered base would go well with the chrome legs of the Eames DCMs.

As much as I admire Chilewich's designs, I was disappointed by a doormat purchased at Crate and Barrel designed by her. It had such a foul odor (I am assuming it is vinyl) that in my opinion was completely unusable. Definitely not an eco-friendly or green design solution.

I hire a professional.

We needed to replace our garage opener (after it started to smoke because of an overheating issue). So a trip to Lowes garnered a Genie Opener after the salesperson said it was easy to install by a DIY'er.

Long story short, it was a nightmare. At least over 50 pieces required to assemble, a track in 3 pieces, and the worst instructions ever. Returned to Lowes.

In turns out a local garage door company installed the opener with a better quality model in less than an hour, gave a year warranty on installation and service, and cost us only $125.

I saved time, frustration, and money by hiring someone to do the job right the first time.

An open letter to the fine folks at DWR:

Dear DWR

I have been a loyal customer (and fan) of DWR since the beginning and have admired your visual identity and stewardship of modern design. But your recent attempt at making a quick profit leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I like the fact that you have created a "Free Shipping" aspect to your product offerings. What I don't like is that it's obvious that you've increased many of your prices and built the shipping costs into the final price.

Whose idea was this? This is marketing at its worst and your company should be ashamed of itself. With so many of your competitors offering free shipping on top of a discounted price, it's hard to swallow your "Design Within Reach" brand message.

Unless I can only find product exclusively at your store, I will seek alternative dealers such as Room & Board, HIghbrow, Crate & Barrel, Modernica, and Velocity – all of whom don't attempt false sales and "tricks" to get customers to purchase their products.
