Do you think they can chip in a little bit for all of you out there with upside down mortgages instead of dipping into my pocket for them?

I don't get this tiny house "movement". If you want to save money, why not live in a cardboard box?

Wesfs, I disagree. At the time I built my home, builder spec houses (built by a contractor) were in the $110-$120/sq foot range in my area. Custom homes were in the $150-200/sq foot range. My costs to build what ended up being a custom house was $115/sq foot. All of the prefabs I looked at were in the $250 /sq foot range.

I'm not someone who is going to diss these houses because of quality because I think it's not true. I think these are great designs, and have the potential to be quality, depending on who is making them. I'm very pro pre-fab, I really wanted one but they are too expensive. Maybe if you live in a formerly over inflated housing market (which is now in a serious crash) $300/sq foot is a good deal, but not for me.

It's a great idea in theory but it's just too damn expensive. Period. I looked at prefab extensively when I built my own home and nixed it because I could build it myself for 3 times cheaper, even with the savings in time.

I think they should definitely go with the pitbull.

I personally have an alter that I have created of Obama that I mediate to everyday. I even have a little chant that I do, and everytime I see something of Obama on the news, online or in the papers I drop to my knees and recite it.

I'm so happy Omaba is in DC. Do you think we can get updates of when he uses the restroom, like, if he uses green toilet paper?

Haven't you guys learned about posting political stuff yet?

My friends know which way I lean but my neighbors don't and I rather keep it that way. Do I think differently if someone puts up a sign of the "other guy"? Yeah, unfortunately I do. I have perfectly normal, yet heated, political conversations with co-workers and when we are done we laugh about it and are still friends. But not everyone else is the same way. I would rather have peace in the neighborhood then have worry about it. Besides, I really don't care how people vote.

I've watched it and found it to be very interesting. As much as I love modern architecture, I did happen to agree with some of the neighborhood residents that they didn't want them "experimenting" in their neighborhood. Personally, I would have liked to see the students come up with something a bit more modern along the same vernacular without being over the top, but the design that was chosen is a very good one. I think the best part of the show is the young woman who had her design chosen - a caucasian girl with a thick Carribean accent. Priceless.

I can second the Minka Aire fans. I have one also and was very impressed with how quiet it is, and how much air it moves. Love the remote too.

I have those galvanized milk barn lights on my house. They were cheap and fit the bill nicely.

Cultured stone it, if it's in your budget.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

Amed - It's funny that you mentioned painting the window to fade into the stone wall. I originally tried that idea, but after 4 different trips to the paint store, I gave up LOL. One was too purple, one was too blue, etc.

Apartment Therapy New York | NY Good Questions: Upholstery Fabric For My Couch

The lighting I have in the kitchen and dining area are from Schoolhouse Electric - painted sage. The thought also crossed my mind to do more of a muted sage instead of the intense green.

Fabric texture is also a concern because of all of the floor and stone texture that I already have. I'm a newb at this, but I would assume I should stick with basic solids and stay away from patterns because of this?
