It's funny, I approached #1 from the opposite angle, much like a previous poster with #4. If I have closed cabinets, I feel no compunction to keep the insides tidy. If I can't see it, I don't worry about it. I transitioned to open shelving because I love seeing my dishes, but also because if I see it, I have to keep it organized. My kitchen shelves are much better organized with open shelving, though it's still a different story with the jars, appliances, et al. beneath the counters. It's amazing to me how risk-averse and scared we have become while society has only gotten safer. If you compare current crime rates to what they were a few decades ago, we're all significantly safer. Obviously some neighborhoods are safer than others, but it saddens me how much we have become programmed to mistrust strangers who in almost all cases are harmless. I understand why some wouldn't open the door, but I'll open it every time. When Do You Open Your Front Door? |

I was impressed with how well Stephen left. He as much as said he was outclassed and didn't make excuses. Top Chef All-Stars: Live Goldfish & Aerated Foie Gras |

It looks pleasantly functional, but I'm going to have to echo the footstool comment. The design itself is pretty boring. Cat Hammock by Tamar Gilad Design Showcase 2010 |

Similar to sukiiii's question, does anyone know where I could get ahold of the pink/white birds fabric in the header? It's gorgeous! Best Fabric Shops: Online Marketplace 2009 | Apartment Therapy Boston |

If either way would fit with your decor, I would vote for stripping the wood. I am admittedly a bit of a wood fetishist, and think a lot of the furniture redecorations that involve painting over perfectly nice wood do the furniture a bit of a disservice. Either way, nice chair, and I'm sure it'll look even better when you're done with it. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Opinions About Chair Restoration? Los Angeles |

Those are all very nice, but why are so many mobiles you see these days hung symmetyrically along one axis? I have a couple Flensted mobiles, and a large part of what I love about them is the way they are counterbalanced such that the lightest breeze sets them spinning. Motion is what makes mobiles so magical, and ones like these are doomed to be largely static. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Modern Mobiles at Design Public |

Not that this is bad advice, as it is very solid, but I would like to point out that it is quite possible to rent tools for jobs. I tiled my bathroom floor last year by renting a wetsaw for two days, which was really cheap. If the only obstacle is not having the right tool, renting may be a good solution. This is in no way retarded. Non-noise canceling earphones allow a decent amount of ambient noise to enter, but still block enough to make riding a bike unsafe. Normal earphones still physically block a good deal of the ear canal, which is plenty to keep you from hearing the car coming up behind you. This is perhaps stupid for normal applications, but makes a lot of sense for cycling. (Now why you need to listen to music on a bike anyway is another good question...) I'm going to echo littlebrownbird here. I have a couple flensted mobiles I love. Part of what I love is the motion of the mobiles. These may be nice and "grown-up", but when you hang everything from the same bar, you lose most of the magic of the mobile. They're quite pretty, but I imagine they'd be pretty boring as far as mobiles go. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Mobiles (For Grown-Ups!) by Oras |

@Kathryn Hill: This has been my experience too. Potatoes are mostly water, despite what it might seem, so anything too sharp can disintegrate them pretty easily, leading to glue-like textures. I would shy away from using food processors in favor of blunter instruments. Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Weekend Cooking: Secrets of Awesome Mashed Potatoes |
