I love doing everything myself. I'm certainly not the quickest, nor do I know it all, but I really enjoy it. Also, I really adore learning new skills. With the help of a handy friend, I was able to completely re-do my [rented] kitchen, from replacing the subfloor to building a rock maple-topped peninsula, for only $2,000. ...hmm, maybe I like D.I.Y. so much because I'm so cheap/poor. I'm one of the lucky few it seems. My neighbors (also my landlords) are awesome. We three live in a big ol' 1887 Victorian and I've never ever had a problem. They're are very, very quiet and so am I. Once in a while they hear my kitty cat and once in a while I hear their dog. None of us smoke, none of us party and I'm doing some repairs and remodeling for discounted rent. We're all super-environmentally aware, too. They even invite me over for dinner every so often. Yay for awesome young, hip landlords. I would like to build my home (be it a rented apartment or a purchased house or a nest on wheels) as efficient as any sea vessel. I'm as efficient as I can be in my current rented apartment.
