It's always paint with me. This article is timely indeed. Wanting to inject some colour into my family room, I opted for Farrow & Ball's 'Drawing Room Blue'. Great colour, but it is so WRONG for this room. I'm just about to leave to buy yet more tester pots and am enjoying the creative process but somewhere there is a little nagging voice which is telling me that after all, I shall revert to the colour it was originally painted in 'Hardwick White' or maybe a deeper grey. Oh gawd I am in a real dilemma. Actually, a 'trilemma'. I am about to recover a sofa. It's a huge chesterfield shaped sofa with loose linen covers. Since I bought it 17 years ago, I have changed my style a lot. I'm now decided on having it deep-buttoned and covered in velvet but I cannot decide ont he colour. I'm between Rust, Blue and Grey. It's a lovely room and I adore the grey. I have three or four rooms painted in different shades of grey around my home and I find that any other colour coordinates well with grey. I have to disagree with you on closing in the space though. Grey does make rooms feel cosier than white for sure but I've always found that darker colours make walls recede and give rooms a bigger feel. Reader Paint Tip: Using Grey Apartment Therapy Videos |

I recently painted chevrons around an archway on my landing...it was VERY time-consuming but well worth the effort. I also aged a pine wall cupboard in the same way with a harlequin pattern in black and white and then aged it with antique brown Briwax. it looks amazing. Thank you Stationeryfiend, I'm thrilled I really am. yes there was some stiff competition from all quarters and I must say that my favourite U.S. entries didn't make the finals.
