Nice topic and thread. A while back, I wrote a comment on a house tour suggesting that using a buddha to decorate might be in poor taste, and it was met with total hostility. It's good to see that we can have some mature discourse. Whichever side we're on, it's nice to be respected.

Sheer white curtains (to cover the dark wood of and around the windows) and yellow paint on the walls will do wonders. Please don't paint the woodwork.

I live in a midcentury house that did not have a front door either. I moved the side door to the front, and it's much more welcoming. It also improved the flow of traffic in the house. About half the homes in my area (all the same model house) do not have front doors.

I think the redo is better also with solid turquoise arms. The rest of the chair looks fine to me.

If you're not comfortable there, it doesn't make sense to make it into your "the biggest investment" of your life. There are many other condos to buy, and in the future you have problems selling it because of it's bad history.

I like the pattern and texture, but it would look much better with softer colors that complemented the cabinets. A range of whites and taupes would have fit in, mixed in with muted blues and greens to make it look like water, or muted reds and oranges to make it it look like fire coming off of the stove.

You can hang sheer curtain from a rod over the vertical blinds. This gives you a lot options, while allowing you to use the curtain to cover up the blinds when you want to use them for more privacy and light control.

When you just want light to come in through the sheer curtain, you can draw the vertical blinds to one slide.

I've seen this setup in a resort suite.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've only tried Aura paint among the low VOC paints, and I've been very happy with its amazing coverage, fast drying time, and sheen. It comes in all the standard Benjamin Moore colors, and a unique set of Aura collection colors. Because it is an acrylic paint, you need to cut-in your edges first and let that dry before doing the rest of your walls.
