State College is "very large?" I don't think it took into account any of my answers. I've been to State College; I have friends and family who have attended. It's a lovely college town but not a place for me.

I don't understand how Ursula can be so grown up...and I love the treehouse.
The platform isn't that high...I agree with seeing what happens. I have fallen from higher than that with railings, incidentally (and I've never broken anything but my head).

Sadly, not much.
Too quiet makes it worse, so I need some noise, like music. And I need just enough light to see if I wake up (if I get to sleep) in the middle of the night, as I get disoriented.
If I have any kind of worry or stress, it's worse.
My biggest issue is that my head never shuts off, and yes, I've tried yoga, meditation, and probably everything else.
I guess it's good that I can function on little or no sleep, and this has been true since I was a toddler.

As my Italian father says, "authentic" or "traditional" really means the way your mother/grandmother/great-grandmother makes/made it.

I can't wait to try this recipe; thanks, Dana.

leslie_g, I do find that, for some things, like my preferred brand of kitty litter or my Dove Clinical Protection, Target is cheaper than the grocery store, even ShopRite, but you are correct about most of it.

Wear "it," not "i."

And brittanybreslin, would keeping your tights in one of those scarf hanger things with the holes help you?

I wear what fits me and what I like. Personally, I don't care what's trendy. If it looks good on me and it fits properly, why shouldn't I wear i? I look a hell of a lot better and feel better than trying to keep up with ridiculous fashion rules.
Anything that doesn't fit this criteria (and I'm hard to fit, as I'm over 6' and have huge feet, obviously) gets donated if I can manage it.

I rarely buy furniture at Ikea (too modern and put-together for my taste, although I enjoy the assembly most times), but I love their accessories and organizational tools. I just find it fun to go there (on a weekday, of course) and browse, look for ideas and buy organizational stuff (I'm not organized but try to be) and napkins, batteries, or wrapping paper. Then I top it off with a leisurely lunch/dinner at the café with a book. I love to go.
I have to admit, I adore my tile-top bedside table that does not look like Ikea, that looks like real furniture and the pretty chandelier I found.

Ros, why do people hate radiators so much? Granted, I prefer avoiding hot air for heat completely (I think the vents are way uglier than radiators, personally, and they are unbelievably unhealthy. Hot water/steam heat is so much healthier, efficient (if working properly), and does not spread dust), but I don't think that particular hot air radiator is that bad.

What do you do to your Macs? I have a four year old MacBook Pro as my main machine, a twelve year old PowerBook, and an 11 year old PowerMac. I have never heard of this happening with anyone, and I know and know of a lot of people with Macs.

My mother saves absolutely everything, except for the very few things I want, like her beautiful stereo cabinet (which had amazing sound and was gorgeous) and her hatbox suitcase.

The taking off shoes in other people's houses generally isn't a thing in my experience in the northeast, but some people have that policy.
Personally, if people want to subject themselves to shoes inside, that's fine with me, but if I have an option, I will be barefoot. In fact, my shoes come off before my coat.
My current season shoes are in a closet on the first floor and my off-season shoes are upstairs, but that's really only for space issues.
I don't understand keeping your shoes in your bedroom closet (unless you live on one floor - when I lived in my condo, I walked to my walk-in closet and took off my shoes and then hung up my coat in the entryway if it wasn't one of my daily shoes already in the entry closet). I won't walk up to the third floor to take off shoes and then come back downstairs. I'm lazy that way.

I bought a charger from CompUsa for my Titanium Powerbook (I know; it was a long time ago) that was not Apple-branded because the store did not have the Apple adapter, and I needed one right then (and no Apple store). It burned out my logic board. I am fortunate that I had three days left on my AppleCare, or I would have been in real trouble. Never again.

Do people not own shoes (I hate shoes. I am all about coats, myself, but I still have quite a few pairs as needed for snow, rain, yard work, hiking, biking, work, etc.)? Do people not have topcoats and long coats and capes? What about scarves, hats, mittens, gloves, and boots?
These are lovely; they are just not practical for my northeast US life. Also, we are tall, which complicates things more (with regard to height of placement of hooks and rods).
Also, I only keep off-season shoes upstairs; my bedroom is on the third floor.

Femme? Really?
I don't know. If I ever have a boy (at this point, it's not likely), he's going to be dressed in pink, (I despise pink; I always have) but it's crazy to make colors/patterns/textures gender specific, in my opinion.

These may work for someone with occasional insomnia, but I have had insomnia since I was a toddler (not exaggerating). If I don't have music, I will never get to sleep. I have had about three hours total since Friday, and that is pretty good for me. I will try the blue thing, thanks.

If I had to live in Los Angeles, the only way I think I could survive it would be to live in an absolutely beautiful home with character, decorated with personality (I'm not knocking the place; it is just -so- not the person I am). Lovely.

Sometimes you do get what you pay for - and sometimes you don't. The trick is to shop smart and know what you are doing. My parents bought a sub-zero refrigerator when they redid the kitchen when I was about 12. I'm 41 now, and the refrigerator is still great (It's been serviced no more than 4 times).
My friends bought a Miele washer/dryer that I covet - I have never used a washer that cleaned as well. Other friends bought another model Miele, and they are honestly pieces of crap.
I have found that Maytag makes a great washer, but I have had horrible experiences with their dishwashers.
Some of it is luck, I think, but some of it is also research.
