I had a relative systematically steal from me for the better part of a year. They were very careful at first about taking small things that could have easily been misplaced...but it escalated to the point that things were obviously taken. They had broken out a panel to a locked storage room in the house and we only realized when they forgot to replace the panel.

Long story short, if you have something a thief wants bad enough...they will find a way to get it.

I think it's comical how total strangers love to spout "it must be nice" about everything they don't personally own or aspire to. I have way more clothing, shoes and bags than any of these...and seeing this gives me definite ideas about organizing it better.

I've actually done something similar to this with some book shelves I managed to find on clearance at Walmart. They are surprisingly sturdy and look better than they should considering how cheap they were.

The only way someone destroying a book to use for a project is awful is if the book didn't belong to them. If I pay for a book, choosing to read it or use it for wallpaper is my decision alone.

However, I think the lamps and wall art could easily be created (with better results) using scrapbooking papers.

I think registries can be a good thing, since your taste may not agree with the gift recipient. And I have a strict policy of only attending weddings etc of close friends and relatives.

However, I have received several invites to showers for various life events(baby, wedding, graduation etc) where CASH was stated as being the only acceptable gift. These I decline, and not always politely.

2 years ago I moved out of a massive rundown overpriced 3 bdrm apartment into a quiet 1 bdrm. There is a livingroom/dining area/kitchen, a good sized bedroom with a huge closet with built in shelving, and a large bathroom. Also there is deck with plenty of room for company on warm Summer nights.

Heat, lights and hot water included...$500 a month.

Apartment Deal Ever?

I can't tell you the number of times I been about to give away something and a sibling has started with the "how can you just give that away?" speech. So, I end up holding on to things I don't want, that I don't have space for.

I don't think FW's intention is to be offensive by "giving" permission.

When I can't be in my office I have calls forwarded from my office phone to my private number. These calls are generally dealing with law enforcement and child protection agencies, if any of my friends were to answer my phone or even check my caller ID I would be furious.

Answering a phone because you are asked is completely different than just deciding for yourself that it is ok to do it.

People's need for and right to privacy should be respected.

RH is good quality, and beautiful. But I wonder... where I can get the kind of children who will not mangle, chew, drool, sick up etc all over these beautiful bedrooms?

I never understood the appeal of CPKs, as a child or now. To me they were the ugliest thing imaginable. All my cousins begged for them during the craze(one boy cousin even had a CP Pet cat named Adamorous). I was not overjoyed at receiving a doll I thought too hideous to display among my Barbies and Strawberry Shortcakes.

I did however always want and never receive a Baby So Beautiful doll with dark auburn hair and green eyes.

The Original Cabbage Patch Kids (and Other Christmas Morning Disappointments)

When living in the UK I decided a traditional Thanksgiving dinner would cure my homesickness. In addition to the 6 guests I was intending, at least a dozen others were invited by my well-meaning(non-cooking) bf. Which meant spending the entire day before grocery shopping and preparing to feed a mob. It was noisy, crowded, not enough seating, more food than a small army could eat, and everyone loved it...exactly like Thanksgiving at home.

I admit there were tears on the day, but it is one of the best memories of my time spent there.
