Wow! Lots of haters. I think the kitchen looks fantastic.

Doing a math equation in order to plan a party really only works if you are planning to hold the party on the set of "The Big Bang Theory"

"In your opinion(s), what kind of appliance do you think is classic, not trendy? I just bought a new house and want to switch out appliances, but I don't want something that will look dated in a decade. Maybe black?"

Go stainless.

The look will become dated, but the quality of the material will reflect well in the future. I already find black to look dated myself. White as a second choice.

First thing I think is steampunk.

Then I think "harvest gold". The problem is this trend will flow down to the cheaper manufacturers and is not going to convey the class of top materials.

And then its going to look shitty.

That's the type of thing that works for the person at the time, and when they sell, the new owner tells stories of the paint in the kitchen to friends for years after they paint it beige.

I did something similar in my rental. I was painting the cabinets and had the bank of doors above the sink in my galley kitchen off. I looked over and saw that it had potential as open shelving.

The difference in doing this is my cabinets weren't modular cabinets. The shelves weren't bending from the weight of what is stored. It didn't look like I forgot the doors. I painted the insides to match the rest of the cabinetry and it looked like they were open shelving the whole time.

I have to say pass on this version. It doesn't work for me at all.

It's not as easy as picking up a can of gloss and going to it. As referenced above, the walls need to be pristine. You would need to sand all the texture off the walls, and depending on their condition, that can be a job in itself.

I would suspect that these walls are sprayed.

I did a hallway that was real wood paneling in semi-gloss white in an apartment building that was about 30 feet long. If it wasn't for the wood pattern(the lines to signify the boards) it would have looked awful. As I looked down the wall, I could see the striping effect from the roller. The texture calmed down after the paint fully dried for a few weeks but, I would imagine it wouldn't be a great look on a straight drywall wall.

Popcorn ceilings, or texture of any kind. It looks dated out of the can.

Laminate floors. I hate them. They are our avacado green appliances.

Catalog houses as others have mentioned. I prefer a few older pieces that at least add character.

Product design that features form over function, like molded buttons that break and ruin the appliance instead of durable toggle switches that last a lifetime.

I'm all about DIY, but if you can't paint a straight line, hire it out.

Melamine cupboards. Enough said.

Is that a full black? I echo the sentiment about wanting to see more of the kitchen.

The place looks amazing!

Patrick woke up on the wrong side of the bed. No company(wait, can think of a few) would have any issue with you basically having an advertisement of a varied selection of their product at your front door for EVERY visitor to your home to see. Oh, better yet, the home owner then advocates the product adding personal promotion to the product. What's better, some dude you don't know on tv, or Bob from down the street?

I love it, and I usually don't go for the country kitchen look. It looks like such a fun, eclectic space.

If I had to lighten it up, I would use a semi-transparent white stain on the walls. I like that there are no traditional cabinetry in the space.

Clean with TSP before you stain, let dry and you should be covered with the grease stains.

The cement industry is one of the most environmentally un-friendly industries there is. The mixture needs to be heated to be made and the easiest way to heat it is by using mass amounts of coal.
