My favorite tip for traveling lightly (in the US for US folks) is for the return trip. The day before you head back home, swing by the US Post Office, and get one of those "If It Fits, It Ships" boxes large enough to hold most of your dirty laundry. And now your luggage has LOTS of room for new clothes, souvenirs, gifts, ... Summer Suitcase: Tips for Packing Lightly |

French Press, Turkish, and other non-paper-filtered brewing methods still have large amounts of cafestol, which stimulates LDL cholesterol (the "bad" kind) levels. Espresso has less cafestol than those more direct brewing methods, but less than paper filtering. If you are using a metal mesh filter, you may be getting more cafestol than you think. Good News! A local garden center collects the empty plastic kcups and uses them to start seeds. Still not quite as eco friendly as they might be, but at least there is one more use before they directly hit the waste stream. $51 Per Pound: The Deceptive Cost of Single-Serve Coffee The New York Times |

The nice Irish man (RIP) who helped me learn about scotch whisky and Irish whiskey used the seasons as a metaphor when tasting new ones. Islay scotches would be considered winter (as you gather around a fire), and some Highland and Speyside offerings would be spring or summer. How to Drink Scotch: 4 Mixed Drinks to Ease You In |

Or choose one of the "sunnier" single malts from the Highland, Lowland, Speyside, or Campbeltown regions, and keep the Islay whisky for someone who already likes scotch. ;-) How to Drink Scotch: 4 Mixed Drinks to Ease You In |

For the carbonara, if you add a little of the pasta water slowly to the egg mixture, you won't end up with scrambled eggs. A splash of half 'n' half in the egg mixture isn't canon, but can be tasty. What Can I Cook With Pork Jowl? Good Questions |

Pardon the correction, but your link points to A Timeless Way of Building by that Alexander, not the book A Pattern Language, which is the book you mention in this post.
