I completely agree with this idea! We hang out in the front yard with our 3 and 5 year old all the time, riding bikes in the driveway, having a picnic, playing with the roly polys, etc. We even planted our herb and vegetable garden out front so we would spend more time out there (and so the dog couldn't trample over it). When we're in the front yard, we can check in with our neighbors, see if anyone's coming to the door, meet the mail carrier or UPS person, and just generally be social.

Would love links to hard-and-fast evidence that "should be eating lots of whole grains." This is not necessarily universally accepted as fact among many nutritionists!

I've been making avocado smoothies with frozen bananas, full-fat coconut milk, and 1/2 an avocado for breakfast in the mornings, and they're a great way to start the day! The color is lovely, the coolness is great for summer, and the good fats and fiber keep me full for hours. Love this!

Made this or dinner tonight and LOVED it. The sardine salad is just heavenly, especially paired with avocado and greens. It's so rich that no extra dressing is neccesary. This is a perfect hot weather meal. Bookmarking this one for sure!

Made the Nutella version (though with Justin's Hazelnut/Chocolate blend, which has waaaay less sugar and tastes sooo much better than Nutella), and it was a big hit with the adults and kids alike on Memorial Day. I'll definitely be making the other iterations! I would drecommend letting the bananas thaw slightly before processing them, or you'll just have banana crumbs (like I did, at first) instead of sof serve.

We recently decided to cut every-other-week professional house cleaning out of our budget. After years of not cleaning my own house, I was worried about how I was going to get it all done with two little kids and working full time. I didn't want to spend my whole weekend cleaning, and I didn't want to fight with my husband over who was going to do it.

After a little over a week of doing this plan religiously, my house is waaaay cleaner than it ever was when I was paying someone to clean it, and I'm not at all stressed about cleaning. I do my 20 minutes after the kids are in bed, and I still have time to relax before I go to bed myself. The division of labor is not exactly equal, but I actually enjoy my part, since it's not so burdensome as an all-day clean-fest.

I laminated the list and put it up in my kitchen. I check off the list as I go with a dry erase marker. Thanks for this plan... It's revolutionary in our house!

This cake looks amazing, thanks for sharing! My birthday is in the summer, so I can't claim to enjoy "sinking into the warmth of the kitchen," but I have been making my own birthday cake for years. Yes, everyone thinks it's weird, but you're right, for someone who loves to bake (and who has two little kids), there's no better gift than a few (uninterrupted) of hours spent choosing a recipe that I've always wanted to try, getting all my supplies together, and baking a killer cake. And no one has to like it but me!

Thank you so much for this beautiful post and great recipe! I made this for our family's annual Christmas brunch, and it was a big hit. It's one of those things that looks like it took way more effort than it actually did. I am intimidated by yeast breads, but this was surprisingly painless to make (albeit time consuming) and came out just like the photos. Speaking of photos, I really appreciated being able to use yours as a reference while making this lovely bread. This ones definitely a keeper-- we're starting our own tradition!

I made Spicy Bourbon Ginger cocktails for my annual Christmas party, and it was a huge hit. Everyone loved it, even the non-Bourbon-drinkers. The flavors layer so wonderfully and it smells so festive. This drink will definitely be a Christmas tradition for us... I have a feeling my guests will be asking after it next year!
