I am definitely pinning this radiator cover, I had never thought about doing a custom built! I am also in love with the chair and wall color – great job! Baby H's Labor of Love My Room |

My daughter has a KidKraft kitchen very similar to this, and honestly, I hate it. My MIL picked it up at a yard sale for $15 and the colors are cheesy and it's cheap particle board and plastic, when I had my heart set on an actual heirloom-quality wooden set. Alas, I'm stuck with this one. I think your attachment to it is making it hard to get rid of, not the actual piece itself (which in my opinion, is merely a notch above plastic Little Tikes in looks, and less durable). If it was wooden, I wouldn't hesitate to say "save it!" I wouldn't keep it in your room that's cluttered already (it's a HUGE space-hogger, and will always look like a kid's kitchen instead of just a shelf, even with paint). Take it apart and store it flat if you have the space, but... don't make your daughter feel like she HAS to use it when she has kids years down the road. My mom never gets rid of anything and 99% of the time, it's out of date junk instead of cool/quality vintage. But I'm always guilted into taking it just because she saved it for me for 20 years ;) Ideas for Outgrown Play Kitchen? Good Questions |

That's a great color, I've never seen such a fun, bright trunk! My first thought was to add some nice big castors to the bottom, that way you can obviously move it around easier, plus it'll add some height if you want to use it was a table or bench. Chunky, substantial legs would also give you the height you need and make it look more like a piece of furniture. I could definitely see this under a window, if you add a custom sized pad in a bold fabric, plus a toss pillow or two. So it doesn't look "lonely" under the window, anchor it with a side table or shelf to encourage using it as a comfy spot. Good luck! Ways to Upcycle Trunk into Functional Furniture? Good Questions |

A bamboo blind would be nice here, and I'd leave it drawn up so it lets some light in... Might just be the pictures, but it looks so dark in there! I use a lot of natural blinds in my house and wind the cords up at the top — it's a very un-fussy solution when there's young kids around. If you want to bring in more color, pattern, and character to the space, think about your new wall color now and find curtains (or hem your own fabric and use curtain clips to hang them). I'd hang them "high and wide" with a chunky rod and clips, and extend the panels to the wall. The panels would be used in conjunction with a bamboo shade. I liked the suggestion of built-ins until I studied the pics again, and now I don't think there's enough space to work with next to the windows. So my final answer is bamboo shade, drawn to let light in, and curtains hung at a grander scale to make the window look bigger. Good luck! How to Treat 6'x3' Kitchen Window? Good Questions |

I think a slightly bluish gray on the walls, lighten up the shower curtain, add an inside-mount either fabric roman or bamboo shade to hide whatever's going on on the top half of your window, paint your window trim white, and add a frame around your mirror. Since you want color, I'd bring in turquoise in your artwork, towels, and accessories. I think all of those will coordinate both with your cabinets and the wall color. Good luck! Thanks @SarahSnow, I agree to all of that! Someone else suggested putting the gray IKEA rug under the desk, I'm definitely going to try that. And I know the room needs a bigger rug, and something good to sit and play on, so I was already thinking shag. I was thinking about a few more of the IKEA shelves with brackets above the existing radiator one for books (not daughter's books, but adult novels and photo albums – out of kids' reach!) I don't think I can wall-mount an Expedit though... The walls are plaster and those suckers are heavy! How Do I Create an Office-Playroom-Entryway Combo? Good Questions |

Yeah, I've definitely been eying up the Expedits, just not sure which to get. The large one would be AWESOME for toy storage, but it's just too big for the blank wall (which is a main walkway into the rest of the house). I was thinking the 1x5 on its side under the double window with a cushion, so I'm glad people are re-affirming that idea ;) I saw on Pinterest some people use 2 of the 1x5's creating an L-shape in a corner, and I'm totally into that, just have to make sure it'd fit under both windows! Wow, thank you all so, so much! These ideas are fantastic and very helpful, I can't wait to get started! A lot of ideas were along the lines of what I was thinking but unable to nail down myself. It always helps to have a fresh set of eyes to bring some clarity! Furniture just ends up in "its place" for so long that it's hard to see it anywhere else, even if it doesn't always make sense... And now I know it totally doesn't ;) How Do I Create an Office-Playroom-Entryway Combo? Good Questions |

Agree with @pschreiber42 -- high and wide maybe be a general rule, but it does not work in this style Victorian home, in practicality or visually. First, you hide the beautiful casings. Second, plaster/lathe is an absolute *nightmare*, especially around the windows. On my most successful long window treatments, a thick, substantial black rod (from BB&B) was mounted to a flat area of the corner casing, I extended the rod about 6 inches beyond the casing on each side, and used nice chunky ring clips to attach the drapery. You get a wider look and a solid mount without ripping up the walls. But I do really like the look of interior mounts and roman blinds on these windows. Height to Hang Curtains in Old Victorian? We have an 1880 Victorian with the same exact woodwork. I've done different things in different rooms — roman blinds inside frame, tension rod inside frame, and regular rods outside the frame. I've seen on design blogs that you should hang curtains above the window frame so the bottom of a long panel just skims the floor. I've tried this and failed miserably! The problem is that the plaster around these windows in old houses is brittle, and there's stud or brick or something all around the window frames inside that won't let you get any screws of the necessary length in, much less anchors. I've tried it in all different rooms, but we always have to mount them as in your photo - on a flat area of the circular wood corner pieces. Make sure you don't split the wood though, it's easy to! We do the whole family, at least on the front. Inside/back just kid pics. We always make sure to include the dog too ;) I prefer getting pics of the whole family, but I know a good family photo is hard to come by sometimes! Great furniture finds... I LOVE the handmade crib! What a talented dad! That said, I'm not loving the mint + kelly green color combo... They just don't seem to work well together. But, at 18 months, you're soon going to be thinking toddler bed and "big boy room"... I'd take out the baby green and stick with the bold green into toddlerhood. Gray, kelly, and *navy blue* would look fantastic in lieu of the baby-ish mint :) A Grey & Minty Green Room for Davis My Room |

That's funny, this is almost exactly what I wanted to do for my daughter's playroom! (light gray walls, same rug, same shelf, pops of red, etc.) We even have some of the same prints! But, I am *dying* to know where that fabulous red kitchen is from?? A Cheery Room Just for the Kids My Playroom |

The antlers... the chalkboard closet doors... the steamer trunk... the lush green chair... all fantastic ideas! Would have loved to see all the sources for this one. I think a light-to-medium gray would look great with the white vanity and trim, and wouldn't clash with the floor. I know the tile is warm, but matching warm-to-warm tones makes it feel dated (like the tan you have now). Add fresh pops of color to the gray/white neutral backdrop. This one needs more than paint color... I'd also get rid of the plastic drawers, add a cabinet or shelving above the toilet, replace the vanity light, get modern cabinet pulls, paint the mirror frame white to match the vanity, and *definitely* ditch the cheesy plastic curtain and get a fabric one with the liner!
