Watch out if you think the GE 'under-sink' dishwasher is a good idea - as a designer who specializes in renovating small apartments, I thought it was fantastic!
Until I read the specs and found out it is over 26" deep AND you need at least 10" space at the side to re-route the plumbing (plus the cost of the plumber to do that), AND you can only use the approved sink which is a huge, ugly shallow monster of a thing!

Yes, Beachychic, you are so right! - it's not that you can't watch streamed video on a monitor, you just can't do so wirelessly or nicely, or for more than one person!! Help us, AT techy people!

On a slightly related note - can the ever-helpful and knowledgeable AT community help me with this? - I want to be able to watch Netflix streaming, Hulu etc on a decent flat screen monitor rather than a TV. Is that possible? I just don't want to have a TV b/c it makes me lazy :)

Hi Ashley - how about clip-on shades, the kind that clip onto bulbs and are often used on chandeliers? You'd need to make sure the bulb and shade are compatible - many of them are candle-type bulbs. That could be a nice retro look, too! Good luck, and please let us see the results!

brankica and snoogums - thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! And brankica, special thanks for understanding that my original bathroom was NOT one of those 'vintage gems' to be treasured.
And for reminding us all to 'say what you mean, but don't say it mean'!

emal, I have an induction hotplate that slides out in a custom-built drawer in the island, a microwave under that, a small crockpot, a toaster, a frying pan & a soup/pasta/rice pan.
I really do cook real food from scratch!

Dear Juliet - actually, this IS my primary residence: I live and work here.
The fact that I spend a week a month in Dallas where my husband has his business (only because I'm still in love with him!), does not mean that it is not my 'real home'.
If I was lugging half my wardrobe to and fro from NY, you would have a point, but I have everything I need in my little NY space, and travel with just a business bag.
Just wanted to clear this up for AT readers in general.

ashasek, I was only allowed the 5 photos, so couldn't show everything!
There is a microwave in the island, and there is a nifty pullout drawer I designed above the microwave that has a single induction cooktop - i really can, and do, cook!
You can see the whole shebang on my website http://www.lifestylespacedesign.com

Tatyana - no murphy bed -it was only a twin size in the original plan, where the desk is now. The sofa is a sofabed, with the Simmons Air Dream mattress which makes it super comfortable!

Hi 91styale,
You can see more of my closet on my website http://www.lifestylespacedesign.com
For all my closet renovations, I design a system based on the clients' storage needs, order the components & accessories online in a choice of finishes, and have it installed by my local contractor.
Hope this helps!

My closet is a not-so-princely 35"deep x 47" wide x 84" high.
Good luck with your own closet!

Thank you, leilanitexas, for your extensive 'essay' on my renovation - you really have captured the spirit of my philosophy & how I have tried to put it into practice in my tiny space!
I will post my microwave shortbread recipe separately - lots of people have asked about it!
Re multi-function microwave ovens, yes, I do often specify them for clients who have the space - in my little kitchenette I had a max 11 1/2" depth in the island, so had to find the smallest microwave in the world. Even though it was from Walmart & cost $60, it works great.
Also agree with you about the drawer dishwashers, where space allows. In most of my renovations, there just isn't the lateral space, and I find a fab product is the GE UNDER-SINK 24" wide dishwasher, which takes the place of a sink cabinet. Or the GE 18" wide dishwasher.
Thank you again for taking the time to comment so fully - and Lotus Blossom says thanks too!

Hi mackenziemarie - thanks for your kind comments!
Yes, the larger boxes are Bigso from the Container Store, and the smaller upper boxes are Bristol in the green linen-like fabric.
I got mine from the C Store at 6th & 18th in NY - good luck!
