I have a friend who tried her best to make the floor mattress work for her baby. It just didn't. She had to sleep in the bed with the baby every night to make it work. I'm not saying you can't make it work but it seems to be a better option for an older child. And her baby rolled off the mattress a lot if she wasn't in there with him. She continued to co-sleep then tried it again when he was 9 months. Once the baby could move he would get up at all hours and wander the room getting into things. I think being able to explore your environment is a great thing - during waking hours!
