I would make a statement like "Hi Mr. Landlord, my boyfriend and I are planning on him moving into the apartment in 6 months. Is there anything you need from him/us?" That way he knows its coming, and he can request whatever he may need from your man.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason why you think you'll be punished for sneaking him in, but also for asking if he can move in? I've found my previously landlords to be agreeable with most things, as long as the rent is paid on time.

The reason I would say to be up front about your situation, is because I have been on the other side of the situation. I live in a duplex with my boyfriend, and our downstairs neighbor "quietly" moved his girlfriend into his apartment and didn't say boo for about 4 months. He wasn't willing to say anything to us about her moving in, but he was, however, willing to let my boyfriend and I foot 2/3 of the house water bill during the 4th month that she had been living there. I ended up calling the landlord before our bill was due to let him know that my neighbor was not up front about his girlfriend moving in, and that it was not fair to us to pay for part of the water that they had been using. The landlord took care of it from there. In fact, he basically was like "So&So, you've had a long term guest for the duration of the bill, so I will go ahead and split the bill 50/50" and my neighbor didn't disagree (but wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't brought it up!). WTF!!

So if you are in a situation like this where your neighbors may be affected, you definitely want to be the bigger person and talk to your landlord.

I love the idea of a lunch drawer!!
Right now I do the Sunday prep for cleaning/preparing veggies and making soup for the week, which works out pretty well.
The other thing that I'll do it portion out leftovers for the next day's lunch right after I make weeknight dinner. Into the lunch bag it goes, and this way I get lunches packed before I even sit down to dinner.

Ooo how about this one:

My boyfriend and I live in the upper unit of a two apartment duplex. The guy in the lower unit lived by himself when we first moved in in September. The lease agreement stated that we (the upper unity) pays 2/3's of the quarterly water bill and the lower tenant pays 1/3. Makes sense right? We are 2 people in an apartment, and he is only one.

However.... about 2 months after we moved in, our neighbor started dating and his girlfriend has basically spent every night/day over since NOVEMBER. It was okay when we paid our portion in December... but now, they haven't said anything about her being added to the lease or paying rent (which is of course their business with our landlord, not mine). However... as far as I know, the water bill (which will be here anyday) is still split into 3rds. I don't want to be a whiny neighbor, but at the same time, I don't want to pay for his girlfriend using the water either.

So do I ask my landlord about this issue, at the risk of being annoying? Or do I ask our neighbor, at the risk of having my neighbor get mad/defensive/awkward?

OMG I have the SAME closet! Although, it is outside of my bathroom, not in my kitchen. It basically fits a vacuum and rack for air drying clothing.... lots of wasted space here. I was considering putting a bunch of hooks inside so I can hang bags of my crafting materials. Still, probably not the best use of space, but it would certainly beat the current state of my weird little closet. Shelves would probably work... though in my case, I still kind of want to store my vacuum in there, so don't want to lose too much space.
