TV Tivo is always first on my list. Then I can just watch my saved TV shows while I clean/unplack/whatever.

I don't think its a real clock. It looks like a old school fan on a neat surface.

Thanks for the comments!

Here's some extra/updated info,

@cantilevered floor - I've come to my senses and pulled that in quite a bit. In that drawing I have it extending a full 5' over the hallway but I decided that I don't need that much space and it would make the entryway feel very claustrophobic with a height of only 6'8". I'm now looking at only about a 1' which would leave plenty of walking room (2.5') on both sides of a queen bed.

@Tearing down the wall - No worries, that wall doesn't even go all the way to the ceiling.

@Staircase - Don't worry, that ugly staircase was just a place holder to see what kind of space I'd be losing. For the actual staircase I'm still searching for something cool and practical. I saw one in this years Small/Cool that I really liked...

@DIY - Don't worry, there's no way I would attempt to do something like this myself. I'm definitely bringing in professionals. My only question is, given the small scale of the project, do I just get a contractor or do I need a contractor and an architect. Given some of your comments its sounding like I'll probably need/want both.

That's surprisingly not a bad list. The only change I'd make is to ditch the ATI All in Wonder card and go with separate TV/Video cards. For about the same price you could get a nice, $100, mid-range cards and one of the new Hauppauge PVR-2250's which has does HD/SD and has two tuners so you can record two different shows at the same time.

^^^ Good advice.

I just hung mine over the weekend and it went very smoothly. Remember: ALWAYS PRE-DRILL YOUR HOLES!

I'm not really sure where all the "fake" hate comes from on this site. If it looks good it doesn't matter what its made of.

I say if you like it, pursue it like you would any other wall project: go small scale, see what you think, and then if you like it go all out :)

Its *very* important to note that if you live in an multi-unit apartment/condo, chances are anyone with a QAM tuner in their TV will also be able to see your desktop.

Eh, i'm not a fan of macs *that* old, but I do have one of the old, colored, iMac shells that I plan putting a fish bowl in someday :)

I think you can tie it together with the right paint color. I just painted my bathroom, which is a weird mix of black, white, wood, and stainless, a nice blue (Behr "Magic Spell") and it looks fantastic.

Just because it seems slightly relevant, up in Madison, Wisconsin there's this crazy guy who runs a mortuary and in the basement he has a, for lack of a better description, "Dead Squirrel Museum" filled with dioramas made from taxidermied squirrels. I've been there and its horrifying and yet oddly intriguing in both concept and practice.

I've been using walk-in closets for offices in my last few apartments and I think its a really great way to maximize space, especially when you're a guy who doesn't need that much closet space.

So, I used the terms from that PDF to do some more googling and apparently the magic word is "Spiral Duct". Googling that gave me everything I needed to know.

Wow, put the pitch forks away, I meant decorative as "looks good enough to be in plain sight" (i.e *not* PVC wrapped in duct tape :-p), I never said I wasn't going to be using them.

My place doesn't have any in wall ducts so this is an easy, aesthetically pleasing, way for me to pipe air without having to do any heavy construction.

According to gizmodo they have a special tool for pulling out the socket that lets it work in the US.

Of all the places I've liked so far I think this one best exemplifies what I love most about this contest: small place, small budget, great design.

I'm with darcidoodle. Concept = Hot, these photos = Not.

My new condo has some giant walls so I'm actually considering going with something like this. I found one I liked at Ikea over the weekend...

And I also remember that UO used to have two really nice, color, NYC and Paris skyline wall murals but it looks like they don't carry them anymore.

I voted super cool, but I think he's got an unfair advantage because that condo is so *awesome* (IMHO) that he could have just had folding chairs and a card table and I would have loved it.
