I love this house! The painted doors throughout are a great way to add those pops of color to a pretty neutral base without painting a whole room. I had to laugh, though, when I read "featuring a large dining table made from an old door" because before I read that, I saw the photo first of the owners sitting at said table and I thought to myself, "wow, that table is way too small for them." Lovely, comfy home! I just love the gray with the orangey-yellow door. At first I thought it was the same colour as our own door (BM's Citrus Blast but matched in Behr because BM would not give the same colour in exterior paint!). I agree with all the posts about where else would you put display personal photos but your own home?? I love looking at photos when I go over to friends' houses. I'd be less hesitant to display them in an office outside the home, though. I feel a little weird displaying them in the master bedroom, maybe a little in the bathroom, but in a hallway? An empty wall in the living room or entryway? Why not? :) Displaying Personal Photos: Awesome or Awkward? |

I too try to bring something homemade that will suit everyone - usually a salad, some baked good or a fruit salad. I have a friend who throws only potlucks - including her most recent birthday luncheon potluck. Surely that was a breach of some sort of potluck etiquette, especially when she only provided the drinks, deviled eggs and birthday cake - for lunch! Only 1 friend brought anything resembling a main dish - cold cuts because she had thought to ask me if our hostess friend was providing any burgers or hot dogs or other main dish sort of thing - a life saver because almost everyone there came with kids. Everyone else brought salads, bread and fruit. Same friend asked me if she could cook her steak dish at my house for a potluck I threw the other day, lol. I told her that we were using the oven for other things so she should cook it at home. Love her dearly, but we clearly subscribe to different branches of potluck etiquette. Late to the party here, but I just found this post. We actually threw a housewarming party the week before this was posted back in '11! They still happen around here where we live and no one brought us anything other than plants and candles which we were happy to receive. We didn't expect anything, we provided all of the food though we did have people bring their own alcoholic beverages to supplement the beer and wine we would have, and all those people in our house raised the temp in our house by at least 10 degrees! I just cut the avocado in half, leave the pit in 1/2 and put a smooth layer of plastic wrap on top and around. If it browns, I just thinly slice the brown part off after taking the pit out. What Is the Best Way to Store Half an Avocado? Good Questions |

I make avocado ice cream with just 3 ingredients and no ice-cream maker too - mash avocado up with milk and sugar (or condensed milk is good too). Add ice and blend and you've got an avocado smoothie. As ice-cream (without a maker) it does become pretty solid, but if you leave it out on the counter for a bit before eating it, it usually is somewhat spoonable. The first time I had frozen avocado was in the Philippines and a neighbour sold a-go-go (like a freeze pop). I haven't tried it yet, but I bet this will work really well as a popsicle. Yes, I wrote "rosewood" in my original email to the AT editorial team! How do you tell the difference between teak and rosewood? Thank you, all! I will look up those names in a bit. I forgot to mention that there are 2 leaves that come with the table and that I don't even know if the other 3 chairs are original to the table either as there is a slight difference in design there too. And yes, it was a GREAT deal especially because it wasn't listed as MCM or Danish Modern, but as a regular ol' dining set. The seller knew it was MCM though, made in Denmark and said it was teak. I was so worried that the seller would change her mind when we got there! Help Identify Mid-Century Dining Table & Chairs? Good Questions |
