The Sutton Sofette at west elm (#4) is SO uncomfortable - it feels like a elementary school bus seat.

If you haven't signed the lease, I would SERIOUSLY rethink this. Look outside your desired neighborhood or shorten your "must have" list and find a place that's big enough for both.

If you already have, I vote for turning the living room (or part of it) into a bedroom and trade off (week to week? month to month?) who gets the real bedroom and who gets the living room.
Be ABSOLUTELY clear on sharing responsibilities before moving - if A comes home from work and wants to watch TV but B's bed is in half the living room and she wants to go to bed early, how do you decide? What is everyone's idea of clean? It's the little things that build up a break roommate's friendships.

I couldn't focus on the text because I was distracted by the amazing floral suit one of the guests is wearing! I know this isn't a fashion blog, but does anyone have a source for those pants?

If you're interested in using it as a breakfast bar, look for "bar height" stools - typically they're about 4-6" higher than "counter height" stools.

I use a desk organizer from Homegoods! It's pretty enough to keep on my dresser and all the cubbies hold different types of make up - one for everyday, one for lips, eyes, face...

I'm an omnivore and just got this book to share with my vegetarian boyfriend - we've tried 3 recipes and have been impressed with all of them. My one comment is that the book seems to use the same spices over and over again - a lot of fresh lemon juice, red pepper - tasty, but as I get used to the recipes I plan on substituting or adding addition spices.
Great photos and filling and unique veggie recipes!

I worked at west elm for 2 years, let me share some secrets!
None of the sectional pieces will attach to other pieces, but you can get a small bracket at any hardware store to attach them to each other, I have had customers do this to great success.
8 -10 weeks often turns into 10-12. Once the sofa is ready, it's shipped to the local courier service for your area who then calls you to set up delivery to your home.
To keep the pillows "sharp" in the stores, we fluff them and flip them CONSTANTLY. As soon as you get up, straighten and fluff the back and base cushions into the shape you want them to stay.
Sign up for emails and/or catalogs, you'll likely get a coupon in the mail or by email.
Order in store with an associate if you have other concerns; this will give you a buffer should anything go wrong - ie, the store can call customer service on your behalf.
If you can wait, in August/September west elm will have a (usually 15% off) promo on sofas and upholstery.
Happy couch hunting!

The majority of west elm furniture is MDF, sturdy enough but I would say not that much better in quality than IKEA.
The chocolate color is very dark brown almost black, and is a wood veneer. The white color is a lacquer that scratches easily. The stores usually have swatches of finishes or can show you a different item in the same finish.
If there's a west elm in your area, call and see if they have a display model - some stores have "online only" items in store for this reason.

I've only been in public spaces (bars, stores, restaurants) that use Edison bulbs, where there is ambient noise. If hung in a quiet space, anywhere residental, would the bulbs make a noticeable humming noise?

My roommates and I threw a housewarming party recently, and were concerned about the number of people our apartment could hold. We went with a casual open house type party and picked a local bar we could relocate to if it got out of hand.

Related question - I have an full size antique metal bed frame and currently have a box-spring and mattress which makes the bed is SUPER high. The box-spring is sitting on a metal lip formed by the side rails with the mattress on top - there is no middle support bar or beam.
Can I get full sized slats to replace the box-spring? Can I put the mattress just on the frame? I am aware of "low profile" box-springs, but am turned off by the expense.
