beautiful. you have a nice aesthetic. i like the color palette, and how everything works together. that is something i can never pull off, just getting it all to work together cohesively. that's tough to do, and i think that's where having the "ability" becomes apparent.

God all these AT homes look the same, maybe because the same aesthetic is applied to each one. sigh.

I like them, it's like having a diner booth at home. And everyone loves a diner booth.

love the dining room. so tired of midcentury modern and everyone thinking they need to have to make a room look good. this looks good and is a refreshing change from modernism.

hmmm, imagine how the house would look if he read "50 shades of gray" instead of the "hobbit." i suppose it could be worse.

I hate the new RH. It caters to the American that can't stop consuming. Those people who "need" to drive huge gas guzzling SUVs, live in McMansions, and whose bodies have increased to enormous girths. They know no boundaries, just keep consuming, and need to fill their giant fake McMansions with enormous furniture to accommodate their ever growing fat asses. Disgusting, and out of place with concerns for the environment and out of touch with people in this economy. This must have been designed during the Bush years before the downturn. Really, I hope it all fails and fails completely.

I recently had friends with kids stay for a few. Now I live one block from a library, so day one, I took them to the library and the kids picked out several videos (great for when you want to have a beer with the parents in the evening and chat). And I also baked some chocolate chip cookies right before they came. Kids appreciated that too. Both really helped the kids settle in.

Also, guest beds are nice, but with infrequent guests, say 5 times a year? One would spend the other 360 days always walking around that guest bed, thus rendering that room unusable. A good air mattress is the way to go.

Looks great! I restored my house from the 20's, and kept it period. People do not understand how good a house looks when the restoration stays within the original aesthetic.

Yes, these things weigh as much as Toyotas, and that kidney bar is unbearable. And daybeds stink as couches and stink as beds, they just never look right. Inflatables are the way to go.

True about prepping before hand. Took me a long time to learn that. I followed Tony Bourdain's advice about the cooking: doing deep prep, prep, and then just final assembly the night of. It makes the kitchen duty infinitely less arduous, and allows more time with your guests. Besides, the last thing you want is to be slaving away out of view while the guests drink up all your 30 year old scotch! I now adjust menus that allow plenty of advanced prep.

Do it. I have done the same because in the past I replaced plaster with plaster, and now I see micro cracks because the plaster expands and contracts with the seasons (humidity/really dry). Be aware that plaster and lathe has a different thickness than drywall.
