My mother always cuts little slits into the meat of a leg and pushes slivers of garlic in. So tasty!

Our party is the weekend after Memorial Day, so we have our plan and we're going to rock it. I actually made a whole schedule and checklist document. Felt a little OCD, but that always feels better than forgetting something at the last minute :D

Mouth is officially watering. That looks so tasty!

I'm not sure I've had a traditional remoulade before. I have had spicy citrus remoulades, mostly. I'll have to give this a shot, maybe at the Kitchn Cure dinner party!

Huh. That's cool to know. I can't believe no one ever explains that!

We are SOOO behind for this week! Feels like we haven't been home for more than a few minutes all week and weekend long. I forget if I commented about one of these freestyle meals - here's the photo and the scoop: http://flickr.com/photos/89339434@N00/2457487084/

We haven't made it to the wine shop yet, but we will be sure to do so when we know what our dinner party menu will be. Our invitation has gone out - we're calling it a celebration of Spring's bounty. We've decided to fly a bit by the seat of our pants and go to the Farmer's Market the day of the dinner party to get really fresh produce. We'll plan out roughly what the menu will be ahead of time and include substitutions in case we can't find what we're looking for.

As for skills, I'm going to try cooking chicken in a pan again. Thanks for posting that article.

A crust??? I'm definitely having a moment. I just thought I couldn't cook chicken, and I hate dry chicken so much that I just can't eat it, so I've been leaving the chicken cooking to the boy. I'll try it out this week.

Ooo Indian food! We've dabbled a bit since we too are huge fans of the cuisine. Paneer is fun to make - I forget which recipe we used but it boils down to curdling a gallon of milk with lemon juice, seasoning with ground cumin, then a series of cheesecloth pressings. It makes a small cake about the size of a standard brie. Difficult not to nibble on, too!

@cmcinnyc - I hear you! I hate the planning but love the freedom. Now I'm feeling like I can take the training wheels off a bit.

My check-in:

We actually have a lot of those ingredients, but I hadn't really consciously thought of them as pantry items. For me, this is the biggest progress I'm seeing from the Cure - consciously making editorial decisions. It feels really similar to my art education. Putting the technical skills together with the more nebulous qualities is the last and maybe hardest step.

New stuff for us are the dried mushrooms, hazelnut oil (sounds DELICIOUS), Maldon's salt (still haven't found it yet), and keeping lemons or limes on hand at all times. I am a citrus freak and really should look into some lemon and lime trees. I hear you can get trees that have been grafted together from multiple fruit trees... must research.

Speaking of growing, we planted some herbs, lettuce and flowers about a month ago and the cilantro and lettuce are almost big enough to think about eating. Even under the extreme drought conditions here in Atlanta, we're allowed to water food plants. The nearby poppies and lavender will get a little extra bonus, too!

Just posted 3 photos to the pool this morning. My parents were in town and I found some AMAZING artichokes at Trader Joe's to plan the meal around. I went with my favorite from-scratch "hamburger helper" dish to accompany the artichokes, and B made a delicious fresh vinaigrette for dipping. Seriously, go take a peek at the photos. The darn things were gargantuan.

I love how you can use cilantro in Asian as well as Hispanic dishes. It's got to be my favorite herb. Good list! I'm searing it on my memory for next time I'm improvising. I get stuck in the soy sauce/ginger/garlic rut, and it's nice to expand that a bit. I notice that lime/ginger makes a good flavor, but I don't know how Asian that is.

This is fantastic, thanks so much for putting it together. A lot of ingredients I wouldn't have thought of. Normally I plan a week's worth of dinners (with leftovers for lunch) and make my shopping list from that, but I will dare to stock the pantry (tomorrow night!) and see what we can come up with this week.

(yes, we're a little behind, but my parents visited last week and we impressed them with the new kitchen skills we're acquiring. that should be worth some extra credit, right?)

I love how fresh a pale robin's egg blue makes a room look. I used Sherwin Williams' Tidewater for my art studio (sort of like a kitchen!) and it makes me so happy. You could do that on the walls, and possibly keep the yellow cabinets, or go tone on tone with the aqua colors, or even go bold with some terra-cotta mixed in, which i think would look very sophisticated.

Amazingly enough I hadn't even heard about the bread baking extra credit mission - we are just that awesome. OK, so we stole the idea while having a weekend pint at our local brewpub who really IS that awesome. Aren't the best ideas hatched in pubs?

Glad you liked the photo!

I have trouble getting the cure posts because I am busier than usual at work, and I have to filter through all of the other posts to get to the Cure ones because the tags don't really work. Or didn't the last time I tried, which was a couple of weeks ago.

We also take fitness classes at night, as well as have regular outings with friends, so often we do not have time during the week.

In addition, I plan our meals for the week on Mondays, and I don't think the Cure posts come out until Tuesday, so then I have to change my plan, which brings us to the weekend.

We've been doing the tasks on the weekends, which I think is totally reasonable. There's a lag of a day or two for me to edit and upload the pictures (I put mine into collages to make them more fun to look at), so that gets me to Tuesday again.

If you're REALLY antsy, I can post placeholders when we do the cooking *grin*
