I bought a small one bedroom/one bathroom condo in NoVA back in 2001 since rents were increasing faster than my salary. Thirteen years later, it was the best financial decision I ever made since it has doubled in value and I only have four more years left on my mortgage. I was single then and I'm single now.

After having to trash my old toaster oven due to a warped heating filament, I bought myself a Breville Mini Smart Oven. It totally rocks!

I agree with SherryBinNH. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see big ticket items on a wedding registry for brides and grooms who have the money to buy it themselves. It's not your wedding guests job to buy you things you're too cheap to buy yourself.

And ListerOfSmeg, some of us prefer to not wait for a partner before we start living our lives. The idea of not buying china or whatever just because some hypothetical man I will marry one day won't like them is just setting oneself up for unrealized dreams.

I own and have been living in my small condo for the past thirteen years. For me, it's worked out great because rents have gone through the roof in the neighborhood while my salary has not seen the same appreciation over the years. I have about four years left on my mortgage so the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter every day!

I'll third that suggestion of checking TJMaxx/Marshall's/Home Goods for really nice bottles of olive oil.

#1, 3, and 4 definitely apply to me so I'm a maximalist in regards to color and pattern and sparkle but not when it comes to collecting. I have a collector's urges but I hate clutter even more so the amount of stuff in my house stays small.

I don't have a budget and I love beautiful clothes so the shopping has gotten out of hand lately. But I do always make sure that the items are on deep discount before I buy them. I do a check-up twice a year to make sure that what I have hanging fits and still works. If the answer is no, out it goes to Goodwill.

I also cull things every season to make sure that I get rid of things that no longer fit/work/look good/etc.

I usually load up my shopping cart as I see stuff, then I wait for end of season sales and see what's left there. If the item is still available and I still want and the price is really good, then home it comes.

I make my own detergent but with Ivory bar soap and without the baking soda. My clothes seem to come out clean.

It reminds of that SATC episode when Carrie and Stanford go to a party and the host requires everyone to remove their shoes only to ruin the look of Carrie's outfit and have them stolen by another guest.

As a policy, I always remove my shoes when I enter my home but I don't require it of others. It depends on the nature of the event and the weather. If it's wet and snowy, then yes. If I'm going to the trouble of throwing a nice dinner party, I'm not make my guests remove their shoes.

Stunning. It does look like a decorator did it because the mix is just perfect and can be rather hard to achieve for us amateurs. But well done to the homeowner.

My installer told me to use Bona floor cleaner. It seems to do a good job with keeping them clean and not leaving any residue. I need to clean my floors more regularly so that they don't get dull and scratched. Thankfully, it's just me so the floors don't get abused.
