There's very little on earth that makes me want to kill neighbors as having to listen to their music. I can't believe there's a thread devoted to something this annoying, this imposing.

I can't decide who's cuter, the little fluffy dog or little fluffy Ross.

Beautiful place, Chip and Carly. I'm especially taken with the dog and the turntable. Is she part pointer? What brand is the turntable?

Also, as Lucy gets older, you may want to put a riser on the floor for her bowls.

@yellowcoffeecup: A crystal glass in the shower?

I hope your husband isn't as clumsy as I am. I shave and brush in the shower, and I would never keep something glass in there, it could slip so easily out of my hand.

The red is so red, I can't look at anything else in the room. I saw a shade of robin's egg blue in an earlier thread today called "Runway Your Way." Since you say you'd like to use some blues and greens, I recommend painting over that red with this or another blue you like.

@JessicaGB: Barkeeper’s Friend (BKF) and Bon Ami both work on Fiestaware. Make a paste. Leave it on for a few minutes. Scrub off with a Dobie pad.

@rejean: BKF works on Le Creuset. None of mine has gotten as dark as you describe, so it might take you some time.

@ yellow coffee cup: The active ingredient in BKF is oxalic acid. It has a slightly sulfuric smell.

Another thing BKF does nicely is remove tea stains from cups.

Out Darn Scratch: Cleaning Marks Off Dinnerware

I moved 12 years ago, after living in the same place for ten years. I'm a big reader, was a big book buyer (I'd long since run out of room on five crowded tiers of IKEA Niklas shelving), but was never a *collector* of books, per se. I never organized any but my cookbooks and large art books. I just put books on a shelf when I was done reading them. And that was the last time I touched most of my books.

When I moved (pre-internet), I gave away around 1,000 books. I wasn't going to schlep them over to Second Story Books (Washington, DC) to have that little snot who bought their books go through paroxysms of glee as he rejected half of them, so I left them in the laundry room of my co-op. They were gone in a couple of days, which was nice to see.

I didn't miss anything except for the cookbooks I gave away. I ended up buying some of them back. So my basic message to you is this: CULL, BUT IF YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING TO MISS A BOOK, KEEP IT.

I used one of those ubiquitous BB&B 25% off coupons to buy a Kitchen Aid blender seven years ago or so. The store stank so of cinnamon air freshener, I had to leave ASAP. I didn't find the blender particularly wonderful, either. It has a hard time pureeing less than a quart at a time. I've not been back to BB&B, nor bought anything else from Kitchen Aid.

Hi, Rachel & Kevin -

I really like your kitchen. Nothing's better to cook in than a clean, white space. Also love the dog.

Question: where is the bookcase/shelving unit from in pic #14?

Thanks for opening your house for the tour.

Mazen,

This is one of the nicest apartments I've ever seen on AT (or anywhere). I love the Jens Risom chairs in particular, and also what looks like a kitchen you can really cook in.

Bravo.

This is a difficult layout to read. I'd like to know more about kitchens 1, 4, and 9, but there's no reliable way to click to them.

Terrible turntable placement for playing records. It should be a couple of inches higher waist-high, and not have a tabletop on top of it.

Nothing to promote in such bad placement.

What would you call that white pad on top of the orange mattress? I could use one.

I bought knifeforkspoon, too, and I just love them, the spoons in particular. They make me want to eat. I got a mirror 6-pc. set for 8, with the monobloc knives, which IMO look and feel better than the ones with the thick handle.

Now I'm getting platebowlcup to go with, at fitzsu.com.

I love those particular shades of red and green you used in the bedroom, Mitch. And even more, your nice, plain, functional kitchen (I detest the extravigranite kitchens of the '00s).

I've got three sets of dinnerware, Metlox Colorstax (vintage 1978-1986) in Aqua, Sky Blue, and Fern Green (really chartreuse); Thomas O'Brien's Tiago Blue (navy); and finally, this year I bought Jasper Morrison's platebowlcup to go with his knifeforkspoon flatware, which I actually bought last year to go with the Tiago Blue.

I agree it's nice to spend some money on dishes.
